    Trinity Motorsports/Apex Speed Technology/Dinan V8 in a Z3 Coupe!

    We just finished another great swap car! Check out this Trinity Motorsports BMW Z3 Coupe featuring a Dinan V8 from their Daytona Prototype Program. How's a 500+hp NA V8 for you? Featuring Pectel Engine Management, Apex's own Alex Weissinger (the kid genius in charge of our Pegram/BMW S1000R Superbike program) did the install.

    Well with the quality of parts used in them and not being driven full trottle for hours at a time (street driving?) i would think even with the tight tolerences they should last a good while.

    Did they use the Daytona trans also?

    Would be interesting to see this vs the e30 V10!

    Dinan Built 600 horsepower S62 V8 tuned by Apex Speed Technology swapped into E36 M Coupe

    This is a quite an impressive build. Dinan built the S62 V8 with the One Lap of American in mind. Dusty Renteria of Dinan was the engine builder and he used Mahle pistons, billet crank, race spec cams, and Carillo rods. BB supporting vendor Vasavada of Apex Speed Technology did the tuning on the Pectel SQ6 ECU. Claimed power is 600 horses, but only a crank dyno has been supplied.

    Specs:

    - Dinan Built race spec BMW S62
    - Custom 3 ring lightweight composite Mahle pisons
    - Race spec camshafts, billet steel crankshaft, solid lifters, velocity stacks, Carillo rods, valve springs and valve retainers
    - Dry sump side mounted on oil pan
    - Engine management and traction control via Pectel SQ6 ECU

    Transmission and final drive:

    -TR2CD racing clutch by OS Giken
    -Super Lock LSD by OS Giken

    Cooling:

    -Two Setrab SET125 oil coolers
    - Dual PAss racing spec radiator

    Weight Saving:

    - Carbon Fiber hood saving about 55 lbs
    - Carbon Fiber roof saving about 40 lbs (from the original with sunroof)
    - Carbon Fiber front bumper cover with splitter and additional cooling ducts
    - Grand-Am spec Carbon Fiber rear wing by Crawford Composites
    - Carbon Fiber front and rear quarter panels

    Chassis and Wheels

    - CCW 18x9.5 and 18x 11 wheels
    - Michelin PS2 265/35/18 and 315/30/18 tires (1 lap requires street tires)
    - Rotora 6 piston 355x32 and 4 piston 330x34 brakes
    - TC Kline Double adjustable shocks and camber plates
    - H&R swaybars
    - Ireland Engineering Subframe Bushings and rear Toe Adjusters
    - RRT front and rear subframe reinforcements

    Words really can't describe this build. I owned a stockish m coupe for a while and that car was a blast to drive. This monster has to be off the charts fun, especially since whatever small weight increase is caused by the s62 is easily negated by the carbon fiber hood and fenders.

    A few things. 55lbs weight savings on the hood? How much does the stock hood weigh?

    I thought the engine would sit lower than it does with a dry sump

    It's still a V8 and it can only be placed so low in that nose. Looks like they fit it about as well as you can.

    55 pounds on the hood doesn't sound right, I don't know, but those are the provided specs.

    why not my stock hood weighs 70 pounds, and a good carbon hood weighs 15-20 it sounds right to me. But i have a 323i not a z3

    I thought BMW started using aluminum heavily around that time. I know my hood is very light and carbon doesn't even save much weight.

    I really don't know, not familiar with the stock Z3 hood.

    My e30 hood weighs ~35 lbs and i forget the z3 hood is actually more like the hood and fenders in 1 so ~70 lb metal hood does seem in reach.
