    Tires for HPF cars

Guys with HPF cars, what tires are you running to get better traction. Size? Brand? I have 19x10 CSL reps in the rear right now with 275 NT05s... I was thinking, I have a set of 4 18x9 OEM rears. I thought about running those with 275s so I'd have a thicker sidewall. Thoughts?

Well you want more sidewall, definitely.

How bad is your traction issue? Do you want these just for the street?

Well, I had a bit of a traction issue when I was on the 150 shot. I think stage 2.5 might be a little much for a 30 sidewall.... Yeah, mostly street. I"m thinking I'll try the stock 18s with 275 R888s....

There is a guy local to me that runs a 17 inch rim in the back of his HPF car for drag. If you want to get anywhere, you're definitely going to need to ditch the 19s.

More sidewall should reduce driveline shock slightly too, e46 m3 is a little weak in that department.

Well, you are thinking the right way with the R compounds but might as well go all the way and run a drag radial.

These guys should be running the 18 inch stocker's or an aftermarket 17 inch rim with a with at least 45 side wall. If the OP can fit a 275/45/18 I bet it would make a decent difference. Maybe even a 275/50

Here Taz fit some 295/45/17s MTs with some cutting. Probably went further than most.

Still, no one other than Scott/RaceMX-M3 has done much with an HPF M3 as far as 60-130 or 1/4mile.

True. I was pretty pleased with my PS2s for the 500 miles I drove my 2.5 while home. Then again, I didn't turn on meth and I was just happy to be driving my car. Click here to enlarge

If someone wants to get consistent traction from a dig, low speeds, or into the 10s in the 1/4mile, they're gonna need some street radials at a minimum.

I think there's one guy with some 18" wheels and MTs that said he's good from just about anything but a dig on the street.

I need to buy a set of 17" Fikse or APex wheels to clear my Brembos and some MTs for track nights.

I would steer away from a Road race tire... Yes they are good for corners and what not, but they have a Stiff sidewall that will not give...

i run Nitto Neo Gens in my car, hooks a FWD 500whp+ in a 2500lb car in 3rd gear... i have cut 1.988 60ft's on them as well and have been a best of 11.76@134 on true street tires... They have a ton of tread and last for a long ass time... not as good as thr R888's in the corners, but blow them away for straight line accelration... ive tested out a couple of different tires over the years and the Neo gens are hard to beat for the price...

^ Nitto has a new NT05R which is much better.

I ran 17" MT Et Street Radials 275/40-17 on Fikse wheels..sold those to Lberg, and now run 19" NT-05s on a daily basis. No street tire is going to provide adequate traction, and that is the case with these. If you want to hook MTs are the only way to go.

^ Some of the drag radials make for a decent street tire. Just be aware that they don't last too long, don't like the rain, and you can't corner as well on them. But... they hook.
