The History of First Person Shooters

Since we have had so much PC gaming discussion lately, this is a nice video overview from the beginning:

Good thread, merge it with wolfenstein? Ehh maybe not.

But Wolfenstein DOS was the first true FPS and will always have a place in my heart, it was so majestic back then.

Wolfenstein 3d was a great game for it's time. I remember being able to adjust the view-port size if you had a slower PC.

I was envious of my friend who could run his full-screen, whilst I had to play mine at about the size of a thumbnail.

To me, Doom was the game that really kicked off the multiplayer FPS. We had it hooked up on the LAN at one of my earlier IT jobs.

Those were good times... especially since you didn't have to aim up or down.

You never got to experience the beauty of doom lan party. Quite possibly better than an orgy.

'Blood' was also an epic LAN game

You could get the dual wielding rune and mow down people, or hold two sawed off shotties.. It was great back in 8th grade.. ah the days

    Hah, the laser trip mines.

Nothing better then putting them on the other side of a door so when it opened, boom.

No FPS since has been as clever in my opinion with the ways you could kill someone.

Holo-duke in a narrow corridor, guy runs into to kill you only to run into a room full of pipe bombs as you remotely detonate them while watching on a security camera in safety. That game was ahead of its time.

Some nostalgia for you. It's incredible how far we've come since then.

Some of my favorite FPS games of all time are the Battlefield series. I am still hooked on Battlefield 1943 on the PS3, I think everybody else is too, since the servers are always full.

Nah, pipebombs and the schrink gun were my favorite Duke memories.
Lunchbreaks Duke over LAN , use KALI because we were on different networksegments, schrink your colleagues and stamp them into a new life Click here to enlarge Epic.
    And before that, Doom ruled.
