    UK Ess charged z4m......

hi guys heres my z4m, supercharged by ess, the cars awesome to say the least, the vt1 is perfect for the car and retains the z4mawesome balance, it certainly makes for a very very quick car.

The car drives just like stock, but my god full revs are eye opening, the way back i encountered a stock e92 m3 and left it standing, you can imagine the grin on my face, my mpg isnt massively effected, oil temps are exactly the same as before as the charger has its own oil supply so it not heating up the engine oil. Under the hood looks awesome, so neat, pure pornography, in the wet the car was breaking traction very easily, infact it was scary, in traffic conditions the car behaves perfectly. Their is little to no noise from the charger at low revs i can hear a slight whistle, at high revs all i can hear is huge induction raw sucking, it sounds freaking awesome, i can also hear the blow off valve with a gentle whhhhhooooooossshhhh!!
ive done about 5 trackdays with this kit and its performed faultlessly, the software is a work of art. perfection, idle is digitally smooth, the is just a hammer, very happy with my vt1, i posted some vids and pics or your viewing pleasure, excuse the poor quality of pics please

    Very nice post and wlecome.

We have had a few guys looking for options on the S54 Z4 M and the ECU seems to be a roadblock. This is one solution for guys, definitely, not too sure what else is available for the car.

    Great vids and pics!

hi, thankyou, yes their are little to no optionsfor the z4m with the very complicated ecu, which i believe is very closely related to the s65 ecu, i have to say after doing alot of research i went with Ess, nevermind the kits which is fantastic quality, the tuning is where im most impressed, the tuning on alpha N is perfection, soo much smoother than when the car was stock, no hunting, just rocksteady running, as you can see use the car properly so im really putting the kit through its paces atm, and so far a massive thumbs up!! Im new to this forum but i can see one common trend...... Ess dont seem too popular here i was wondering if someone could maybe explain to me why ess seem to get abit of a frosty reception on these forums? i really have nothing bad to say about ESS at all, anyway, great forum you guys have here, i sure will be putting in alot of time here!! Btw is believe my vt-1 is only 5psi kit, the car dyno'd at 460bhp on uk true 100 octane fuel, i can post dyno sheets for those intrested once i get home to my computer. Z4///M + Boost = Awesomeness!

Absolutely, there are a few reasons.

First, ESS posted misleading dynos representing the E92 M3 claiming they could hit 600 whp with 7-8 psi of boost on pump gas through the stock exhaust which simply has been shown to be impossible. They posted inflated numbers in order to build up interest for their kit.

Secondly, ESS puts out inflated figures for all their kits but does not back them up with independent dynos. So, we have a history established of users not hitting ESS claimed figures.

Third, ESS asked me to help organize a third party dyno shootout where they could put their product up against others in the tuning industry. I did as they asked and set up this up spending months doing so at my cost only for them to back out at the last minute and not honor their word.

ESS makes a great kit, but in my view Roman and AJ have no honor as they are liars and therefore most have no respect for them on this forum due to their own actions.

    I agree, Z4M + boost is awesomeness.

Would really like to see your dyno sheet if you have it! Would be great.

That is kind of weird, it is supposed to be a "kit" that you can install. Hmm, I wonder why?

sticky i have no idea really, i was very dissapointed as really come on, im not going to travel to norway to get this thing installed, when i have a ESS sanctioned installer about 80miles from my house, my installer is a Ferrari race build specialist, an ess certified installer yet i must go to norway to get VT2 fittted?? doesnt make sense? its only a pulley, new cooler, injectors and tune? what i Really dont understand is clearly the parts are availble for VT2 to be done as i CAN have it installed in norway but why are they not making the parts available to the general public, luckily VT-1 will probably be more than enought for me and this car but i did buy the kit on the plan to upgrade after a year on VT-1. Maybe they will make this available in the new year but here in the uk we will see a Tax rise that will make things alot more expensive, especially when you add in shipping and import costs, so this kit maybe unfeasible for me after this tax comes into play in the new year, Its a shame that ESS chose this route as many peope in the hotter climates want the intercooled VT-2, the uk is a cool place with low ambient temps so the kit performs perfectly here, but in dubai for example its not going to work is it?
i have to say though the quality of the s54 kit is amazing, really top notch, Ess have let themselves down to not complete the programme and finish a public VT-2 for the z4m.

I don't get it, there is no logical explanation for why your car would need to be shipped to Norway for this. Maybe there are some other issues at play here?

Do you know if guys currently are running the intercooled VT-2? Sometimes ESS announces things are ready before they actually are. Has anyone gone from the VT-1 to VT-2 on the Z4 M?

    Yep, you are right.

That is just weird, no plans to sell the VT-2 kit and only installed in Norway or in the US facility? Something is just fishy with that.

no-one has ever gone VT-1 to VT-2 on the z4m application, if you want to get VT-2 you need to do what fr8tdog did and get an install at ess in the U.S or go to their norway location, either for me is just WAY to far, infact it would cost me more to get the car their than the actual kit, pointless.

I agree, it is pointless. The whole thing just doesn't make sense, what is the reasoning for the install only being at their facilities? That goes completely against how they market these kits, but hey, that's ESS for ya.

i dont no either, if i email i get the the same answer........ no VT-2 is available for retail but i can get it done inhouse, so im assuming their must be an issue with this vt-2 or they'd sell it, again i will re-iterate ess have been fabulous but this is rather annoying, so basically i will have to make my own VT-2, get the 8psi pulley and get my own custom build cooler and oil cooler, and of course a smaller s/c belt.

My line of thinking is the same as yours. It is probably that it is not really "available" and they want it where they can monitor it and tune for it. What other explanation is there?

The fact they are not willing to work with you after you already purchased their product and are encouraged to upgrade is a real shame, that speaks volumes.

I decided to ask fr8dog directly as this whole VT-2 thing was confusing to me, here is what he said:

Click here to enlarge Originally Posted by fr8dog

They were supposed to have my car for 60 days and that turned into 120+ days. Apparently they had to custom work the intercooler piping and change pulleys and tweak the tune quite a bit. I think the cost of creating the tools required for the intercooler piping was cost prohibitive for mass production. When they completed the custom intercooler pipe on my car they noticed the boost wasn't making it's target because of pipe flow characteristics. This required changing the pulley and more custom tune work. My guess is that the cost to fabricate the complicated intercooler piping on a large scale is not worth it to them. Roman even told me that the only reason they even considered the z4m was that it was a cool car.....but the profit margin for the z4m is mighty thin. I was very surprised when I learned of the vt2 not becoming a mass kit. Hope this helps and you can copy and paste this if you like. Cheers sticky.

On a side note.... I have to say the vt2-500 on the z4m is absolutely F&$:ing amazing!!! With the cool temps lately, the car is transformed as timing isn't pulled and it just wants to rev until the needle breaks Click here to enlarge. The car is balanced and the 0-60 with drag radials is smash you back in your seat fun. I'm contemplating whether I want to sell my car in order to help me move into my dream home at lake tahoe. I'm unloading a few toys to make my dream home a smooth transition but am fighting myself with giving up my one of a kind z4m. If I do let it goe it won't be cheap. I know this isn't the place for adds, but if anyone knows for someone looking...let me know

I was the first and only one in the USA with the VT2-500 when I picked up my car. I can't say for sure if I am now. I believe their was one guy thinking about sending his car to ESS this fall for the VT2.
