The return of BMW to the DTM from 2012 is reality: This was confirmed by the company during the DTM race weekend at the Hockenheimring. In April this year BMW had announced its intention to race in the DTM in principle from 2012, the first time since its departure from the series in 1994. The Board of Management of BMW AG considers conditions tied to a positive decision to return to the popular touring car series have now been met.

In recent months BMW has been working with the DTM umbrella organisation ITR e.V. and the other manufacturers represented in the DTM on issues relating to the future technical regulations, and the long-term internationalisation of the championship. The positive nature of these discussions means BMW Motorsport can now begin planning its DTM comeback in greater detail.

Very cool, glad they are expanding the racing. My main concern is and will be ALMS though.

The German DTM touring-car series has announced plans to stage races in the United States in 2013

    * In March 2010, GT Association (the governing body in Super GT series in Japan) reported the ITR are starting to unite the mechanical regulation with Japan's GT500 (Super GT's upper class), and America's Grand-Am series to form a new Grand Touring specification. This regulation was expected to be completed in 2015, while they were expected to start the unification on 2012

It was announced that an American DTM Series would begin racing in 2013. Much like the system where the name and format of the American Le Mans Series were licensed to be run by Don Panoz, the American DTM will be licensed to and operated by NASCAR's Grand American Road Racing Association. The inaugural 12-race series is set to be run on North American circuits in conjunction with Rolex Sports Car Series, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, and NASCAR Nationwide Series events.

Very cool, just wondering if the car is going to be similar to the ALMS car?

DTM usually is smaller motors and cars based on the base models not like the competition in ALMS.
