The TOTAL COSTS for my IC was: IC + Piping + Install = $300

...and my car is much faster now than with my former aftermarket aluminium IC.
With some basic technical knowledge the Big Tom IC is a very cheap and good choice.

I have no idea how people are going to get it installed with piping for $300.

I think you did a great job because you did it yourself. No one is saying it is a bad choice, it is a very good choice, but you better be prepared for extra cost and work.

    to the OP...

we have a distributor in Taiwan who brings in large shipments of our products at a time so that they can keep the price down for their customers. they have ordered a handful of dp's, standbacks, chargepipes, and intercoolers recently. if you pm me your contact info i will get you in touch with them...

as for the quality of our intercooler - you will be very suprised at how difficult it would be to find one that flows better. we designed this FMIC to out perform in every way. Efficiency rating is a great way to determine quality and take a look at our white papers and you will see nothing was spared in making this setup near perfect.

Taking a look at the white paper will explain a lot to people. They just need to take the time to actually read it through from beginning to end. I don't know who writes those but whomever does, that is the kind of thing we like to see.

I guess when you can sit there and mass produce them the price comes way down..for a batch of hand made products that outdo everything else out there..well the price will be a little bit more.

I am always the type of person to try to make something myself...if the time and the reasoning permits. For basic bolt ons your average intercooler kit being sold now will do the job just fine. that 4hp you make at top end with xyz intercooler instead of abc is not gonna make you win any drag races...but for some reason everyone wants it cuse it makes them feel better at the end of the day.

You dont see toyota supra guys $#@!ing and complaining that front mount kits for their cars is over 1000 dollars...the problem is that half of the BMW owners on the other forum are kids...and kids dont have money. So everyone complains they are getting the 'bmw tax' and slapping on chinese downpipes and knockoff cheap intercoolers. How about we support our guys here in the US by buying some hand made products instead of buying $#@! that is mass produced in Taiwan by some dude who gives a $#@! less if it leaks or not?

    sorry for the rant.
Matt, sorry but I have to disagree. These cheap china-made parts perform just as well and cost less than half of their US competition. The VK downpipes for one, I took them off my old car and upon inspection, other than the bronzing from the heat, look perfectly fine without any rusting. Those pipes even after installing them with a buddy on his lift on the new N54, went seamlessly. Money is not the issue with me, I simply cannot justify paying $500 more for identical performance and a higher quality weld job when they both accomplish the same thing. If I could do it again, I would have gotten the raceland pipes for a $100 less!

In regards to china-made FMICs, can't comment as I don't own one.

Does anyone have any intel on the weight of the ICs mentioned compared to the stock IC?
Because it is so far in front of practically anything else it is gonna make the car understeer more if you hang say like + 15 kilo's under your bumper.

I don't really see it having that big of an effect.

OK, I was exaggerating a little.
But in the AMS Youtube video they themselves said their IC was 10 kg, and a lot heavier than stock.

You would be hard pressed to feel it especially since it replaces the stock intercooler.

Although CP-e makes a good FMIC, I dont think its better than HPF; or I would have bought it.

    hpf is very good ic
but cp-e is the best overall market per thousand dollars

have 2 things in the same price as the hpf

but if you're looking for a large nucleus and very cheap like me that I have is the best ....
