Could have made your own intake manifold by now, walking to get all the parts.

Quick update: RMS aftercooler done, ordered new Dinan s/c brackets from Dinan, and have Vortech V7 in hand. RMS now making custom fuel rails to go with some big ass injectors. I am very, very patient, but it is good to finally get everything together. Tuning will be either 034 or another tuner I choose.

That sound nice, "St. James". Click here to enlarge. Zero? Don't think so. This is a completely one off, custom job. There is no other 540i on the planet with this type of aftercooler.

Good to hear something has been done. But if one is good at what they do then one off or not it should get done quick. This is not a kick at what they do because their hardware is nice. Do you still have the same power goals?

As long as St. James is satisfied that something has been done, for HE is the customer! Click here to enlarge

I guess I just meant in terms of how long it has taken it seems about like nothing has been done. However, I'm probably not grasping the magnitude of the project.

Not poking fun here, but it's interesting how things change fast. I bet 650 RWHP seemed a lot more significant when you started this project than it does now... Now guys with 150,000 mile 5.3L truck motors and $250 chinese turbos are putting 850HP to the wheels through old-school slush boxes. That wasn't nearly so much the case when you commissioned this project way back when. Technology marches on, in a way.

LOL, it is not just about the hp. Not to sound elitist, but a chevy and a truck?

No, I hear you, but guys are putting those motors into everything including bimmers (several nice e39s running around with various iterations of the Chevy LS motors in them), and the results are incredible. In the really low-buck cases, for only a couple grand.

It's just something that is always on my mind now when I think of what to do with my 540i. I probably can't bring myself to think of building my M62 to ANY extent at this point.

i kind of agree but m62, s62, etc are still fairly unknown with turbos. Don't forget the very few successful turbo m6x with dyno numbers have all cracked 600 whp at under 10 psi (and i have not dyno'd yet) and a built s62 made over 800 at 10 psi. The dollars it takes to build m6x motors is the problem, not the power they can make.

Why is the build so expensive? What setup on the 800 whp 10 psi S62? 10 psi??

If i remember correctly it was fully built, ported, sleeved, cam'd, single turbo. I dont think it needed all that but hey... The 2 claimed 600whp m60's, one with a dyno sheet were claimed stock engines. And the s62 turbo stock head n block with custom intake made 500 at ~8 psi and super soft timing.

So a single turbo M62 made 800 whp?
