    Not really.
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, but I think it's just the angle... That's gotta be the diff cooler.

Yeah - I noticed this too... It's not only one pipe (the left) - it's also the right. It's symmetrical. I am guessing they are doing something like a user selected bypass for sound enhancement? Maybe a bit more power too? Definitely isn't running through the muffler - that's for sure.

I am thinking those are going straight through with a bypass - definitely aren't hitting the main silencer, right? Hard to say though.

Wait, maybe BMW finally got smart and decided instead of synthetic noise they would employ a sport bypass valve similar to Porsche so they were not a laughing stock again?

When he drove away it did sound like it was running without a muffler.

So what was that guy telling me about sub E46 weight and an 8k redline without any substance to back it with?

Those actually connect you with someone at the dealer who will sell you "M" stickers that make it look like you have an 8k redline.

991 GT3 is DFI and revs out to 9k rpm. Its not DFI holding the motor back... It's BMW holding it back for whatever reason.

But that's naturally aspirated squeezing out every last horse. You will run into problems adding big power to that car as the injection window is so small you will need some kind of superman fuel pump.

No man. The next M3 will be e46 weight, Veyron power, and rev to 1 billion rpm. BMW knows what they're doing. They would never use M for ///Marketing...

Completely off-base here... It's going to be a V6 with an Inline-6 sitting between the V (this is why there was so much confusion). The turbochargers won't have any lag, and the throttle response will be better than an LF-A... So - it's really a 12 cylinder N54/55 - so, it's not 1 billion revs, you just multiply the current N54's redline by 2 - it's simple. So, with the 15,000 RPM redline, coupled with these no-lag turbochargers (will be an upgrade for all non "M cars" called the ///M Air Addition Package) - we are looking at about 1300 torques and about 400 HP (since power doesn't matter - car will have so much torque, they actually removed DCT and just use a single gear). The best part about the next M3 are the available M performance options. I heard for 3,000 USD, you can get some paint with these titanium flakes in it (for lightness of course). They will also offer a "M Performance Exhaust Power Puffer" for 4k - it will make the car sound a bit better, and will give you another 3 torques. If you are REALLY feeling like buying a true "M" car, you can get another 10 horsepower with the "///M Power Adder Plus Package" - this will cost between 4-5k depending on what paint color you chose... The greatest part, is we can keep our warranty AND have a BMW tune. Oh, and in regard to weight? It's MUCH lighter than the E46 M3 - it will have a ///M carbon composite (MCC) frame coupled with a "///M TiLuminuCarb" trunk and hood... Current estimates are that it will weigh in under 2500 lbs (with driver, full tank of fuel, all fluids) - if you are really feeling frisky - you can get the Convertible model; lowers structural rigidity, but actually weighs LESS than the coupe/sedan. It's some new space age technology called "///M Air" (pronounced MARE ala horse for the missing horsepower).

I hate BMW for this crap - and DO hope this car kicks ass, but I have a strong suspicion - based on what they have been doing lately (non-exaggerated version of the above), that we aren't going to see something truly special/revolutionary (like the pun?)... Hopefully I eat crow (never understood this saying) - as I really do want them to make something awesome. We shall see.

To anyone not understanding my sarcasm, that's what this is. Click here to enlarge

Looks like they're doing the same thing they did with the 135i where one of the exhaust tips bypasses the muffler entirely. At low RPMs a flap closes off that tip and forces all of the exhaust through the muffler but at higher RPMs when the flap opens, it really lets you hear the exhaust growl and pop on overrun. My friend saw this M3 driving through Santa Barbara twice this week and he said it sounds awesome.

Whatever it takes as long as you don't have to roll your windows down and turn your volume up so people can hear your engine sounds.

Whatever the redline is...why would that matter ? 7K is more than fine, as long as it makes the power and torque. Sound is good for sure, because the muffler has a bypass valve, as far as I see.

The muffler looks a bit rough, which makes me think that it could be made of titanium. Titanium does not have great bending properties so keeping it straight and rough may reduce costs. Or maybe it's just not a production muffer.

Quite odd location for the rear brake calipers.

The rear suspension looks like it has aluminium parts that look thinner than the ones on the e9x M3. Probably to save weight.
