    Smile 335i or 3.0T S5?

Dear all, the CLK is now out of warranty and frankly just getting tired of all the little issues popping out here and there..., thinking about getting a new second daily driver(i have an A6 for going to client meetings etc.)
i have 2 cars on the list at this point, the tested and proven 335i with the best in class N54 Engine or the new, amazingly pretty 3.0T S5 spotsback?
the car will serve as a second daily driver, and will be driven about 60km per day, about 4 times a week.
will be keeping both cars stock for the duration of my ownership.
all advice are appreciated, and thanks in advance!

You mean A5 sportback, correct, not an S5 you are considering? The 3.0t is a diesel I believe and you are comparing it to an N54 motor.

Honestly, I'll take the N54 over a diesel Audi. Although the diesel will have nice torque (which the heavy Audi desperately needs) it won't have the fun factor. I would consider the S4 vs. the 335 if anything.

hum... the 3.0T S5 Sportback beign offer here in Beijing is a 3 liter supercharged engine runs on 97 petrol with 333PS and 440N.M.

is this engine not an option for the S5 Sportback in the States?

The S5 here is still using a V8.

Since you get the S4's supercharged V6 in the S5, I would choose the Audi in your case.

Yeah, the 3.0T S5 is only slightly more expensive than the 335I here and delivers the same level of performance as the V8 S5, which here in Beijing is asking for M3 money(or about 20% higher than the 3.0T) so I thought its a great value for money.
The S5 is an AWD same as my 911, and there is really nothing like driving a fast and well balanced RWD BMW, its been more than 3 years since my last one.

New or used? What are the prices of the cars? Would you consider going used?

the335i is about 740,000RMB out of the door, 3.0T S5 here is about 820,000 RMB out the door, and the M3 is about 1.15 million RMB out of the door.
The V8 S5 is just over a million RMB.
not considering used cars at this point.

God damn these cars are expensive over there! DAMN! Why not a slightly used CPO 335? If you get a 335, you AT LEAST have to throw a tune on there, it's a MUST!

yeah tell me about it, my 997TT cost about the same as the MSRP of a 2010 Murcielago in the States lol.
Wont consider modding the car, went all out with the E46 M3 back in the days with the S/C and everything.... MAYBE if i am still in the states i would, but just dont trust anyone to touch my ECU here

I would take the N54 but then again I am biased towards the platform. Either decision you make is a good one.

I think the only Audi I would consider is the TTRS. It weighs 3100 lbs and has a turbo 5 cylinder under the hood. With some agressive tuning, some bolts ons and meth I am guessing it could be a 10 second car assuming it could produce 430+ at the wheels.

The TT-RS is a nice car but not available for us here. In China, I'm not sure.

yes agree, the TTRS is a very nice car, but with only 2 seats and limited space, its more of a car for the weekends...
The 335 and E9x platform is a few years old now, do we know when's the next generation replacement going to be? sorry didnt really follow the part of the news.
If i am to sell the car in 2-3 years, i would like it to be the "current" generation for better pricing and options.

Replacement will be unveiled next year, should be a 2013 model here.

If you want the current generation and not to be outdated quickly, once again I would stick with the S5.

I bought a 2010 Audi S5 with the 4.2 NA Motor 6MT. Biggest POS I ever owned. Tuning prices are outrageous and the power just isnt there. Had pretty LED DRL, but that was it. Stay away from the Audi if you are a driving enthusiast. Sold it and took a $13k hit to get into my 335is. (that was just money lost on the trade and I bought it for $10k under window!) N54 all the way!!!!!!

I definitely agree with this regarding the V8 vs. the N54 but not with the 3.0T motor.

He said S5 not A5. The S5 cabrio is a supercharged V6. Still a $#@! motor with tons worse carbon buildup than the n54 especially if staying stock.

It isn't a $#@! motor, it is a pretty nice powerplant. It has carbon build up issues just like the N54.

You're right it isn't a $#@! motor, but I was so saddened when I sat inside an Audi by the lack of power the vehicle has at the price point is does. Just get the n54 you cant go wrong especially if you choose to stay stock. The 335 is just so damn fun to drive. Trust me the BMW will not steer you wrong if you want a sporty car with mild to high performance. The Audi will be a let down if its a car to drive for fun. If you need AWD, go with the S5, BMW's x-drive has nothing on Audi Quattro.
