    N55 exhaust on an N54 (E90)

I hadn't really looked at the N55 motor or exhaust until recently and Ive seen that the N55 exhaust seems to be much freer flowing than the N54. I did some searches but the only threads that came up were Bimmerpost and nothing was definitive.

I know Terry put an N55 mid section on one of his cars, but does the entire N55 cat back bolt up to an N54 chasis and DPs? Seems like it would be a nice upgrade with no secondaries and a built-in X-pipe instead of the resonator (E90 wise).

Why not buy the Supersprint sections or just build your own? Probably be less expensive then buying OEM bits anyhow (it's an exhaust, just some metal with bends)

I was going to say why not just upgrade the exhaust.

yeah Benzy I agree with modding the existing (SS is too much $$$), but was more wondering if it would bolt up exactly. I try to keep all my OEM parts to put back on when I go to sell the car.

I know the N55 midpipes bolt up. I'm not 100% sure about the axelback section but i think it's a direct fit.

What blows my mind is that they changed from 4 cats on the N54 to one on the N55 and from a resonator (E90) on the N54 to an X-Pipe on the N55. Is the twin scroll single that much cleaner then the twin snails?

You could do this. It's a 100% firment with the N54 E90's. Only thing is it will be raspy, so I would weld in resonators (At which point you might as well do that to your N54 catback)

How loud/raspy are the N55's with a catless DP?
