    Water Pump Failure?

    2008 335i (build date 12/07). 41K miles. Heard my fan running overtime, and sure enough, on the way home the coolant temp warning displayed. I am assuming water pump + t-stat needs to be done. Anyone had luck with BMW covering the water pump? Or is everyone just eating the cost?

    Waterpump

    I def ate mine paid 550.00 for parts and did it myself. Not hard to do just kind of a confined space. I have an 08 335I fbo with 37k miles so really didnt want the hassel of taking everything off just for that. So I just did it myself.

    Worth asking on good faith? Is it not 2008+5 years? Goes by build date?

    I just changed mine at 97000 km (almost 60k mi.). Didn't had the time to do it during x-mas holidays so I went to the dealer. Cost me the parts + 4hrs.

    Since I have sold my 330i at 125 000km with the original water pump, I was a little bit surprise with that one. At the same time they saw a power steering oil leaks (easy fix 5$), AT oil leak (From mechatrocnic sleeve) and oil leak from the thermostat-oil filter housing gasket... Kind of things I didn't expect to see < 60k mi. Click here to enlarge

    I had it towed to the indy today. Getting confirmation, but the fan comes on full blast instantly upon startup, so pretty sure of the diagnosis.

    Just to close the loop, it was a water pump failure. They replaced the t-stat too. Everything is back to normal.

    So was this covered or out of pocket? Seems you are out of the warranty period.

    @Sticky

    Yes, I got boned. I payed out of pocket. I actually had a 3rd party warranty that I forgot about, and they wouldn't pay ANYTHING because I didnt call them before the repair. I even asked if they would pay 50% because it was a legitimate repair, and they weaseled out of it.

    @ajm8127

    No idea what the actual failure was within the pump. I assume just more of the same crappy BMW electric water pump failures. My build date appeared to be before the PN was changed. Based on other posts, it seems like a really common problem for the early N54s.

    Sorry, I wasn't specific enough. Do you still have the pump? I am interested in taking it apart and trying to diagnose the failure.

    3rd party warranties and extended warranties have only been a nightmare for me. They love to get the cash but then do anything to get out of paying.
