Cooling Mist CMGS/Progressive Methanol Install- Supercharged M3

To N54 guys, this is old news. But to M3 owners, you may not have seen it before.

The first question you will probably ask, is "Is it functional/can you see it?"

My answer, Fully functional for what I needed it to do.

    Apologies for distorted pics

Wiring Diagram, very easy to do. (currently not using a solenoid, but will upgrade when it arrives next week)

The backplate in your glovebox-with hole drilled already

CMGS inside hole, slightly too large.

I was just going to use some superglue and put a bead around it. That made me think to use electrical tape so that i didnt get glue on the guage itself. That led me to decide to just wrap enough tape around it until it fit snugly, so thats what i did

Once it was very snug, I added a few well placed drops of superglue to ensure it could not slide or move under accelration or adjustment

CMGS in place, power off/power on

Lastly, the meth tank with "custom bracket". I dont think I ever posted my setup before

Because the only function I need from the guage is the progressive control, this location is perfect for me. I dont have nor need a flow sensor, so i dont need to see it, I already have a boost guage, so i dont need to watch that. Its easily accessible and very discreet, also not taking up too much space.

I saw an install on another s/c'd M3 last weekend, and it was not very clean. It was basically the same as what I had in the 335, which was meant for a quick install, but not secure.

The real testing will commence once the weather clears up Click here to enlarge

i dunno now, we would have to change the dinner place, Mrs does not approve.

back on topic, i just went for a test ride, and the car is a ROCKET! between the almost 1psi more, and now progressive meth kit, I would not be suprised if 30-40hp was gained. I will of course test this on the dyno soon. I believe meth is worth a lot more than 10-15hp as some "people" try to advocate

Wow that's terrific news. Sorry I haven't been following all your posts...did you get a smaller pulley to increase boost? Also, what nozzle sizes are you running with the progressive system? Thanks!

its cool, but its all there, for anyone to replicate Click here to enlarge

yes, in short, stock pulley was actualy 103mm, i measured incorrectly the first time, the upgraded pulley is 102 mm I ganed .8 psi from it, im seeing a consistant 6.3 psi before it spikes.

My meth flow had to be quenching, from these results. It is now prgressive controlled by the CMGS, 25% at 2 psi, 100% at 7 psi (so i wont fully reach it) 70-80% meth oh, and a CM5 nozzle

More aggressive with boost? Because whatever I do I want to be proper, and that entails upgrading to next level kits, and that's not in the cards right now

You can always throw a pulley on there and log and see if you need the intercooler yet...

Sorry yeah I went back as saw your pully thread. Interesting regarding the meth kit...Progressive seems the way to go for sure. I'm so glad your car is liking it.

I have the Procede and PWM meth kit from teh 335 just collecting dust, so I'm going to retrofit for the M3..I want to use the Procede as a progressive meth controller. I know what you guys think about the Procede as a piggy, but I don't have to tune with it. I can just use it to control meth and also to log data.

If he already has it, and it can be fitted for little to nothing, sure why not, but for someone that doesnt have it, I have less than $200 in hardware for my meth kit. Its rather complicated in and instensive install for JUST the progressive controller aspect

If he decides to run one of the "tunes" on it, thats the results id like to see, as the other guys have gone very VERY quiet about it, and Im under the assumption is the same reason as his other ventures, and thats that it doesnt work properly, ie your gonna get into trouble.
Consider this, Shiv spent what, a few days working on his "tuning" for it, compared to the months of tuning involved in the base s/c kit tunes. How much do you trust the shiv, given his history and blown motors

You are exactly right LM. Right now the Procede and PWM meth kit is not being used and can be easily converted for the M3 as I just need to send the Procede in to Vishnu to make a slight hardware change and firmware update...and as for maps, there will be no "tune" loaded up on the meth map. So just like for the N54's, Map 2 will be the meth tune map, but this map will be a pass-through just like Map 0. So when I ultimately want to run meth, I will toggle to Map 4, and it will run the meth without a tune intervention. This will also give me the benefit of using the blinkers to show when meth is flowing or not.

Now, have I thought about driving up North and having Shiv custom dyno tune me a meth map? Yes I have. Although I am much more hesitant about doing this after polling you guys. Ultimately even though I am very certain (based on my usage of the Procede/PWM on my N54) that the Procede on Map 4 only runs a meth map when meth is detected as flowing...I am not 100% certain. If I was I would do it unequivocally. Given this small amount of doubt, I have an alternative thought as follows: have Shiv create a custom tune for me, BUT, only run 100 octane if running the meth map. So, if for some reason meth doesn't flow, and the Procede fails to transition from the meth map to the pass-through map, then at least I have a safeguard in place (the 100 octane gas). I mean really, with a VT2 600 kit and catless exhaust, do I really need to run meth as a daily driver? No way. I will only want this for track events and the Airstrip roll-on's for which 100 octane is available.

    Still haven't decided.

Anyway I'm leaving right now to go to EAS to get a baseline dyno of my stock car (with less than 300 miles. lol.)

the 4hr cooldown helped that 600 car, as it was not the same outcome in our first race, still waiting on the chase video though
