ZL1 vs gt500 on a track with turns!

    http://www.automobilemag.com/reviews..._shelby_gt500/

In short: Camaro wins by 7/10ths.

Great article and really highlights the differences... I had higher expectations for the handling of the GT500 and it comes up short. Frankly its a sad that a heavier car with less power is faster. Without missed shifts it would be a few tenths faster, in my book I call it a second faster which is massive on a road course that small. Maybe a longer course like VIR tightens up the run but the ZL1 is the course king for sure
    We stay swingin...

Good point. I'll be inserting my meat right here since it won't let me edit my post.

I'm not surprised that the zl1 won the track race although I am surprised by the margin. I am also surprised it weighs that much more than the mustang

This test shows the different philosophies between these two cars. The mustang is a rocket in a straight line and sort of a "spec queen". The camaro is a proper sports car (even with the weight).

The great thing about the times we live in is that 5 years ago, cars this fast would have been considered to be super cars almost! And now that level of performance is acheiveable for normal people.

The Camaro ZL1 is as much of a sports car as the e92 M3 if not more.

The E92 M3 offers better balance and a far racier motor. Not to mention far lighter weight.

I dont understand C63 drivers complaining about the GT500s or the ZL1s weight when the C63 coupe weights 3,900 pounds

yet this new Camaro is as fast as new Porsche 911 Turbo S in a track. Something the M3 is far from. Anyways, check out the video below. Apparently
    the Camaro is that good!

That is against the Laguna Seca Mustang though...not the GT500. The GT500 is still like $2k cheaper than the ZL1 and more comparable, not sure why they even made a video using the Laguna.

Props the the Camaro for being quick around the track. That being said...how many people buy muscle cars to autocross? Can't wait to see some more drag and roll on results.
Never thought I would see the day...

i hate the camaro, its ugly as hell and no one really brings a stock car to race. So the better question is, which car holds up better to mods?

The M3 with far less power is 4/10's off the 997 Turbo around Laguna Seca.

It's nice it turns decently for a boat. People are buying it to mess with that supercharged V8 not go road racing.

Well if I was to pick one. It would definitely be the Shelby. That engine is way too good to pass up, even if it still a lot of body roll. I'm sure a lot of the suspension from the boss 302 will fit the Shelby.

No I said people do not buy the Camaro to road race. It is more about a mod platform than anything else as the sc puts out too much heat to be a serious road course car. Most people will use them for acceleration your stripped out caddy not withstanding. Notice that m3 has a naturally aspirated motor and would hammer the camaro in an extended road course session.

I kinda have to agree with sticky on this. Most track junkies go for NA cars. GT3, Z06, exige, miatas... Typically NA Rwd.

ZL1 is an awesome machine but I can imagine track junkies really saying they need that car albeit it can do the job. But on long track sessions the more weight the worse. That thing will eat tires and brakes. From what I see most guy going for the mustangs or camaro are dragging. Also 99% on this site seem to be strictly into straight line racing so wtf is all the bench racing and arguing about.

Also I bieve the CTS-V race car uses a NA V8. I think a 6.2 or it may have had the z06 engine. Pretty sure but can't say 100%
