Renderings and specifications of the upcoming 2014 F26 X4 - set to share X3 platform

BMW has found a formula that works with the coupe style SUV's. The X6 sent competitors scrambling to come up with an answer and BMW's head start is paying dividends. Hence the idea of the X4 which will simply repeat the same formula. BMW will simply take the F25 X3 platform and modify it creating the F26 X4. This means you can expect the same automatic transmission and engines, an N20 and an N55, as well as a low curb weight in the 4000 pound range. It should also open the door for M versions of these two SUV's who would likely share the powerplant of the upcoming F80 M3.

Not for me, but I believe it will sell very well. The engine sharing between platforms and models makes a lot of sense as a business, but does not appeal to me as a consumer.

If they make an M version I will take a close look at it.
