Good work. Definately a huge improvement over other intakes. Looks identical to the DIY I posted last year (minus the flexi hose):

Yep! I borrowed some of the parts that you used! Click here to enlarge I just did not like the flex hose because of the turbulence.

I just converted my intake to this setup yesterday. Great DIY Vas, you're on a roll bud Click here to enlarge I did use my flex hose left over from the original Mr.5 installment but I may switch it out to this silicone alternative, looks great actually...cleans up the engine bay a lot too not having the dual cones in there

Thanks for this, finally pushed me into ordering the stuff needed for a mr5/hybrid intake. I really hate how the DCI's looks...

Why would you go hybrid route over mr5?

I was using a 3" flex pipe for it and it ended up rubbing on the wheel whell fender liner...i took it out and ran DCIs again for a while...and this weekend I had some time to play with the car so I put the stock box with a high flow filter back in and just cut the original 3" flex hose I had shortening it and made this...need a new cone, this one is dirty...

excuse the somewhat dirty engine bay

Looks very clean, but isn't it just the same as a DCI in that the filter is still located in the engine bay and thus still sucking in hot air?

Um... Think about what you just said and look again at how this intake works...

He is right, its just a dual intake one from the front and another from the engine bay. Honestly I think the Mr 5 idea is better in that it sucks from the bottom. I'm willing to bet its not much if any better.

This type wins in the maintenance department though...when its in the bumper, especially on e90s, its really hard to know what shape your filter is in

The air pressure from the stock intake should help draw in some more ambient air vs the DCI setup. And the extra filter helps relieve pressure loss concerns.

That and the fact that there is no flex hose to create turbulence is what made me do this. Obviously it is a compromise, but for my taste, I think this is a better compromise.

Don't think turbulence is much of a concern...once the air goes into the box it doesn't have a nice path down into the pipes anyways IMHO...its just a way to get more air volume in for the top end

I agree I had the STETT and filter change was useless.

Well it is true that the stock turbo inlet pipes are nowhere near smooth as they should be. I was thinking more like trying to equalize the air dynamics from the filters to the clean air chamber in the airbox. Maybe I've been overthinking it... Anyway, I think this is a functional and clean design which also allows you to keep an eye on the condition of the cone filter very easily.
