TUNING Eric's HPF SINGLE TURBO 335i on the DYNO - LIVE FEED

John is dialing in Eric's HPF Single Turbo 335i today. I turned on the live feed for you guys to watch. He's doing very preliminary tuning on the car. One of the pulls he made 474rwhp on pump gas. Expect delays between dyno pulls as he's getting everything set up.
There is residual oil in the exhaust from before the upper check valve was installed. So it will smoke for awhile. If it continues smoking all day then we will have to implement our lower bypass valve like we did on our single turbo M3 kits.

Imo hpf is at a real disadvantage using shivs tuning solution. As problem arise he will be able to sort them out and hpf will simply be stuck as they dont have access to all the things shiv has.

This is because there is cylinder trimming going on with the front bank separate from the rear bank. When both oxygen sensors are after the turbo the factory computer sometimes trims the fuel incorrectly.
We will have a new turbo manifold with both banks separated mid March and will get the car back on the dyno. By then Shiv will be done with the electronic boost control so we can ditch the manual boost controller we had to use.

Yep, that's been the problem with all previous N54 single turbo kits. Click here to enlarge And when you try to separate the banks your sensors wind up preturbo and exposed to heat they won't stand up to long term.

    Ideas for you:
    1) Contact a good flash tuner like Cobb and see if they can switch the fueling to single bank like the N55 motor.
    2) Design a device that combines both sensor signals post turbo and outputs only one uniform signal to each bank, keeping the trims identical, in theory. Click here to enlarge

    Chris,
As I said on the other forum, thank you for being honest and open with us Chris. All the turbo projects that didn't come to light in the past didn't disclose the reasons for not going through with their setups. I am looking forward to hearing about your redesigned mani. Maybe it'd be great to also not have the turbo below the drains so oil/smoking issues could also be addressed.

+1 for trying a capable flash tune such as Cobb for tuning as well. It'd be great to see what they can do with tuning it given they're pretty deep in the DME these days and have full control of the wastegate scaling tables making it easy to support a different turbo which they've already done with RB turbos that have a different wastegate stiffness than the stock turbos. They also have shown to have considerably more room with the stock fuel system control providing plenty of fuel for high boost 500whp tunes now with RBs on the N54 as well as VANOS changes.

As an aside, you may want to stick with this manifold and try it on an N55 car Click here to enlarge

Interesting, that may be one of the reasons why his hardware setups were favored.

Not a bad start at 474. While I'll never be the guy to get a single turbo, it is interesting to see what others can do with the platform.

Ture, but the C6 Z06 weighs considerably less.
