    AutoExpress compares the BMW F10 M5 to the BMW S1000RR motorcycle around the road course, surprising result

    The BMW S1000RR is a ridiculously fast bike. BMW raised the bar with their offering and it is routinely praised as one of the best the world has to offer. Now a bike like that usually has nothing to fear from a car, even one offering tremendous power like the F10 M5. The thing is, AutoExpress is located in the UK. Why does that matter? Because like almost every British comparison video it is done in the wet. The S1000RR is even given a 10 second head start due to the conditions. Watch the video to see what happens.

    race in the dry and see what happens, bikes on wet roads everyone knows they cant do what they want due to traction but great video not knockin on it just saying

    and the bike is running on summer tires and they prob didnt warm them up which means no traction you gotta get heat into those tires. you can see he cant even really lean cuz he cant trust the bike enough to take the turn like that.

    Yep, the summer tires are another good point. They may as well have neutered the rider too.

    Oh and I am getting tired of all these M5 videos, what the f*ck. I thought they marketed the 1M a lot.

    I have not even seen the car on the road yet and I am kind of tired of it.

    Good video. People think that bikes beat the cars, but they do not consider the variations in the weather. Cars are way less sensitive to the weather and perform great on average. Driving on wet is much more tail happy and fun. Why are the racing videos usually on dry tarmac anyways? It is much more challenging and demanding to drive on slippery roads. I drive ice and snow tracks each winter.

    Why do people race with two arms when it would be much more challenging with 1 arm tied behind their back? Or being forced to steer with their feet for that matter?

    Well my point is you run the machines to their maximum and to do that they need to be in their best environment. The M5 isn't really a machine that has ever been considered good in the wet anyway.

    If you are going to do it in the wet why not at least give the bike winter tires?

    As in most competitions, the time is agreed and the competition is held at that time no matter what are the weather conditions.

    The biker was probably hoping for the track to dry out and thus max the difference to M5 using summer tires. Had he been lucky, his tactics could have worked... In racing it is about the tactics. However, I don't think the winter tires would have saved him.

    After the fact, we can say that the weather favored M5, however in the same way in dry conditions we can say that the weather favored the bike.

    To have a good grasp of which one is better overall, they could drive each Sunday each 52 weeks and we could see the statistics. I'm sure there are both wet and dry days...

    I also agree that this is a good and valid comparison. Weather always fluctuates in the real world and the M5 is just better under those particular conditions. There would be different results if the course was dry, cold, in high altitude... and so on. Bikes are not always better than cars.

    I don't know about valid, the bare minimum is the proper tires for the conditions. It doesn't take a genius to figure out an M5 will lose to a WRX in the snow for example especially if the M5 is on summer tires.

    It's cool to see different conditions and their affect, agreed.
