Question S54 perf chip comparison? Engine rough. HELP!

HELP! I need to decide what I should do next... I have a Shark chip in my S54 2001 roadster with a euro exhaust all by the previous owner. Car runs great except sometimes when the car is cold and has been unused for a week, then it will sputter and stall repeatedly for 15 mins. The coils were replaced once a few years back I do know by the dealer. I run 93 oct. stock air filter. I have only 15k miles on my car. I'm really frustrated...
    HTML Code:
    [HTML]
    [/HTML]

Some absolutely swear by these Shark injectors with lots of supporting facts. My local BMW specialist tells me it's the worst chip and to get rid of it before my engine gets damaged. He thinks that's my problem. I cannot go back to factory specs with my current exhaust which I really like.

I JUST WANT MY CAR TO RUN CORRECTLY!!! I have never owned a car with a chip.

Which is the best quality chip made?
Is my chip causing my car to shut down or something else?
    Should I junk the Shark?
What should I do now, I need some good advise.

    Call it a tune, please.

Can't you flash it back to stock? If so and it still does it you know the problem is not the shark injector.

    I recommend a custom tune.

I'm not sure it will run right if I flash it back, something about some missing o2 sensors that the euro exhaust eliminates.

Where should I get a custom tune done. I am unfarmiliar. I am not concerned about cost, I just want it done correctly.

The Shark injector is whatever, the last thing Conforti did of any notoriety for the BMW's as far as I know.

There are several tune options but I still think you should establish if the cold start problem is a fault of the shark injector or not. There are better tune options than the Shark injector though, definitely.

And what are you doing up at 5:30 AM?

It has been said many times over the years that the Shark Injector is not really a great tune. A lot of things have changed and improved over the past years in regards to real tuning, especially for the S54B32.

Even stock S54B32 have rough idles once in awhile, especially in the cold.

I can tell you this though. I got the Evolve Automotive Stage 2 Tune for my car with catless headers and it has made the idle so much smoother. It is one of the features that they advertise, in addition to everything they else provide. If you're curious, I gained 17whp on a non-adapted DME after 26 runs on the dyno, all in one day. My power and torque gains were present throughout the whole powerband.

I am assuming you are referring to the Post-Cat O2 Sensors. Some of the Shark Injectors turn off the Post-Cat O2 Sensors so you do not get a CEL, but that still leaves that code as "Not Ready." Evolve Automotive has come up with a way to dumb down the Post-Cat O2 Sensor readings so that you can still legally run high flow cats without a CEL. They are also BETA testing a method of running completely catless, yet having all your codes in "Ready" state, but obviously this is for off-road only since you negate the cats.

Hopefully that helps! There is a member on M3Forums with one of the early S54B32 MCoupes and he will be getting his car tuned by Evolve Automotive as well.

They're great to work with, very helpful, and very knowledgable. Best of luck!

Keep in mind that this was after tons of dyno runs, partially heat soaked motor due to the crappy fans at the dyno location, and no adaptations reset.

I have a list of some new and updated modifications for the winter. Stay tuned for new dynos and reviews!

I'm located in IL and unfortunately about to get confronted by a snowy and cold winter, forcing the cars to hibernate for many months. It really is great that Evolve is branching into the States. They have been involved in the M5 community for quite awhile, until this past year where they are now branching more into the M3, N54, and Mini crowd.

Thank you all for the great information. I am going to call the previous owner, as he is still very helpful. I can then find out exactly the history and information to help press on. I am also being closed in by the winter weather as well, she will be in hibernation soon! I would like to get something going before too long.

Based on previous conversations with the old owner, the entire exaust system has been replaced with Euro headers and Supersprint mufflers. I dont even know if the rear O2 sensors are still there. Let me get some more details from him first. Thanks for the help so far.

If you have Euro headers you definitely want a custom tune.

Contact EVOLVE and get them to sort you out a proper tune. Trust me you'll be happy as I am running their Alpha-N mafless tune and it smooth as butter and the power doesn't fall off like other tuners tunes! it gets better the more you drive it.
