Eff the M3, what about the 335i. You bring up a good point, maybe somebody could correct me if I'm wrong but I think the company that makes ecu's for Ferrari are Magneti Marelli. These guys made Formula 1 ecu's that had to have special invisible code so that the FIA couldn't break. How come their stuff is easily modified?

I thought Microsoft (yeah, I know - sounds crazy) did the ECUs for all F1 cars these days?

Now the ecu's in F1 are standardized. Made by Microsoft/McLaren, but before that MM used to make ecu's for Ferrari.

If that is the case, how did they satisfy all the electronics/sensors to keep the car from flipping out?

    Underground does some amazing stuff.

The question I have is, how do they get these cars? Do they have a contract with Ferrari and Lamborghini that when a new car comes out they immediately get one? The 458 has a two year waiting list. Assuming they bought the car last year, that means they have to do the R&D on the tune and turbo kit which leaves them with a really quick turnaround time. I dont know how they do it.

As for tuning the engine, thats the easy part. The hard part is making sure all the thousands of sensors on that car don't know that the ECU was modified in any way. I think the stock ECU is still in the car and they run a standalone for engine management while keeping all the other controls intact.

they use stand alones for the stage 2/3 builds and program the stock ecu for stage 1. They have some gifted people working for them in the software world, and also have some people on the outside that give them a little help coding Click here to enlarge remember that the lambos also have duel ecus.

as far as the cars, they don't get them right away, their customers do. Some of the newer cars were delivered right to ug before the customer got them to begin work.

It's not that it can't, it's that the mid engine layout allows for a lot of room in the engine bay.

This stuff is done using a Motec, not the factory ECU.

Rich people who get them send them in and UGR has a good enough reputation to be able to pull that off. Unless you know of somebody else doing the stuff these guys are on these platforms successfully to such a scale?

Hard to tell what the Aventador will run when it gets dusted like that. I figured it would be a 130 trap car, easily.
