    AMS Downpipe Back Catless Exhaust

Just throwing up a quick video I took a while back of my AMS exhaust on the stock dp's. Hopefully I'll get some time and motivation to do some in car and drive by shots.

Excuse the focus problem, I used my simple point and shoot and the neighbors Christmas lights were throwing off my camera. The video gives an idea but of course the mic used could use some improvement. The comment is usually get from BMW guys is it sounds 'deep'. Comments encouraged as always

I think drone is really subjective but the only time it even makes itself known while cruising is right around 60mph on my manual. Even still it doesn't bother me or the woman and I wouldn't call it drone personally. Everyone that has followed me is really surprised because for whatever reason it is honestly Very quiet from the cabin, but from what I am told nice and aggressive sounding from outside the car.

Thankfully they are not up currently. I actually took the video a good bit ago and didn't really post it up so I thought I would put it up here for some fandangled exclusive BB content.

If the exhaust setup is new to anyone here it really is quite unique for the N54. Honestly this setup is probably the mod I'm most satisfied with on my car thus far.

After quite a bit of R&D and test fitting, tweaking etc we are finally able to offer out very unique V-band Exhaust for the E90/E92 335.

This system is the only one like it on the market. Comprised of 100 % stainless steel we were able to shed a whopping 40 lbs of weight by merging the system into one 3" primary pipe. Making this system not only very lightweight (52 lbs) but also giving it a very unique sound.

This is a very high quality system right down to the flanges. Starting at the front of the system we took the guess work out of the stock twin two bolt flanges and created one sold flange to keep things lined up like they are supposed to be. From there back each joint is connected by a stainless steel V-band flange...and not just any V-band but an air tight grooved surface allowing for a perfect seal.

We searched long and hard to a proper muffler for out system only settling on one that allowed for a deep rich tone at idle and cruising speed but one that would let the world know you are coming at wide open throttle.

Below I have some pictures of the setup on and off the car. As you can see our quality is second to none!

Here are a couple quick shots of the welds on my specific system. I think even AR would be proud. Don't mind the mess, they were taken in the middle of the Maryland winter and they Love salt here.

And here is a shot on my car of the whole exhaust. It is remarkably straight and the full v-band setup makes install relatively painless.

Excuse me if this may sound rude...but what is the benefit to running this exhaust? this exhaust seems restrictive, especially for a twin turbo. Won't exhaust gases escape faster if this was a dual exhaust versus a single? Also, the area where both pipes merge seems a bit restrictive.

    But anyway...nice sound

The primary benefit is the weight savings. If this was a dual 2.5" to single 2.5" yes you would be restricting flow but this is 2.5" to 3". This gives nearly the same the same amount of flow as dual 2.5" pipes. I believe the much straighter (less bends and the ones that are used are more gradual) make up for the difference.

AMS does a Lot of big power setups. They have 1100+ whp on independant dyno Evo's, 1000+ hp GTR's, etc. I trust my cars power in their hands all day. And the single pipe does really make a unique sound for our cars.

Nice shipping plates. Click here to enlarge I hated to have to take mine off. People would always gawk behind me at stoplights. I think they look way better than U.S. plates. Where did you come from?

Haha yeah, I hated having to go back to the old ND plates. My favorite response was the guy asking me if I was some sort of diplomat. Seemed to also help getting me out of tickets lol. I was in Landstuhl, Germany for the last 3 years.
Thanks and your car is looking clean as well. Every time I look at your sig I kick myself for not thinking to get a picture in front of the testcenter. I ended up getting gas just outside of there once and apparently stopped at their parking area for their teaching m3's. Had to be 40 of them stacked up so you couldn't open the doors. Again though, no picture (sigh)

I really like this exhaust, and it sounds good too! I have run into a few exhaust that are just too much noise and drone, sometimes too much rasp. I like the deep exhaust NOTE, rather than just noise.

Any thoughts on the video itself? Still testing things out as this is my first venture at editing and actually using a video camera instead of the old point and shoot.

Well, the editing is fine but leaving the camera in one place doesn't do the best job for drive-by's in my opinion. The quality is great and the editing is pretty nice. I'd say if this is your initial venture into editing you did very well.

Thanks for the input Sticky. I aggree a cameraman would have looked better but I hear 335i drivers have no friends so you do what you can.

Haha I am probably the world's slowest video editor, but you have inspired me to get back on putting together my cruising video. Hopefully I'll get it banged out today.
One day I'm hoping I will run into some people that want to have some friendly runs so I can get that on tape. We'll see I guess

I thought it was just M3 drivers that had no friends, glad to see it is just all of us $#@! BMW owners in general.

Alright here's try number 2 on the video editing thing. Cruising this time. Let me know what you guys think as I wasn't really sure what a cruising video should look like but people were asking for it. I guess it just seems kind of bland to me but I tried to show that it is quiet if you want to behave and quite deep and aggressive when you would want it to be.

It's still being processed currently but should end up HD again.
Edit: It doesn't look like it ended up HD. I had trouble saving the file from the software I was using this time (aspect ratio blips between clips) and I think I ended up saving it with a different encoding method. I also noticed there were some spelling errors although I swear I double checked that. Anyway, gotta get some sleep but I'll play with it tonight. If there's anything else let me know (or anyone familiar with Corel VideoStudio Pro X2).
