I was at my mom's friends house a few weeks ago. They have 5 English Bulldogs. One of them -- I kid you not -- is like 12" long (full grown) but like 8-9" wide. It looks like it's missing it's back half. But it has all 4 legs. It's adorable in a funny way.

I woud love that dog, 3k is a little pricey though. I can pick up a street dog from the humane society for free lol

What are the purebreed bulldog diseases? I know purebreeds have hereditary diseases.

Mainly their breathing problems are what they are known for, hence why they sound like they are snoring yet they are just normally breathing. Here is a list if you care to read the other conditions they suffer: http://betterbulldog.com/aboutbulldogs.html

Damn,so sad to read all those issues that they are subject to. Has to be difficult for the owners to see their dogs having health problems like that;I know it broke my heart when my 2 older Pitbull's health started failing Click here to enlarge

Its mainly purebreeds. Mutts are tougher animals because they are genetically mixed. Same thing with humans, inter-race children are generally less susecptible to hereditary diseases common within either of the two culture.

Do you guys recommend bulldogs? Aren't they tough to train and not all too smart? Can they serve as a guard dog at all?

Dobermans get too big. They are a great compromise of safety (gaurd dog) and loyalty (play dog).

My neighbor had a boxer. I will never forget how obediant this dog was. He was like a soldier. The owner didn't even have to say anything and the dog knew what he wanted. He knew when to play around, but he also knew when the owner meant business. Too bad he died last year from liver cancer. I will never forget that boxer.

And that's not the first boxer I ever saw this way BTW. I think all boxers are innately very disciplined, or can be made that way.

Too stickys point, bulldogs arent very good gaurd dogs. They cant run as fast, they are small and when they get older they become useless (as gaurd dogs).

For an all out guard dog, nothing comes close to a trusty german shephard IMO
