Lotus will build the Evora GTE

Awesome news, however, will it come to the USA? It better:

Lotus has already confirmed that it will build a road-going version of its Evora GTE racecar based on the striking concept version we saw at the recent 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, and now, at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show, the automaker has unveiled the production version.

Producing a peak 438 horsepower from a race-bred version of the same 3.5-liter V-6 found in the Evora S, this is, quite simply, be the most powerful Lotus road car ever built.

Originally designed as a special limited edition for the Asian market, Lotus has now announced that production will be expanded on the Evora GTE road car to meet demand and reach further markets--including the U.S.

In fact, Lotus planned to build just 25 examples for the Asian market but more than 100 customers put down deposits within days of its initial announcement, prompting the automaker to launch it in other markets.

Plenty of carbon fiber has been integrated extensively throughout the exterior and interior of the car, helping to shed more than 165 pounds from the weight of the base Evora. For example, carbon fiber has been used for all the bodywork modifications including the front and rear bumpers, the rear wing and the doors.

The car also gets a custom automated manual gearbox, forged light alloy wheels shod with Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tires, and Recaro bucket seats made from more carbon fiber.

That's better, none of this weak $#@! they've been coming out with lately. I thought the Evora was underpowered and kinda pointless IMO. This thing has my attention now.

The Evora S was a big step up but this is just a giant leap. Too bad it will be over $100k.

Worth it, the Evora was a pathetic underpowered neither-here-nor-there car. This is more race bred and probably geared towards real drivers as opposed to grocery shopping rich kids who just want a 280 hp evora.

    True.

I'm definitely interested in this car.

Can you imagine what UGR will do when they get their hands on this? Remember it weighs like 2400 lbs right?

No, the Evora S is 3150 or so. So this will be in the 29XX range.

2900 these days is 'light'. I remember back in the 90s light meant under 2000 and heavy was over 3000. I think airbags and protection should be optional.

"Sir would you like 60 airbags that will deploy in 4 milliseconds to protect you during a collision?"

"No, I want my car to be light, just keep the A/C"

29XX is really good, I'm not complaining.

Wish it had a DCT but with that weight and power this will be a mid 12 second car out of the box.
