    Help..... Click here to enlarge

I've read this specific related issue on a few forums and still can't find the fix? Has a fix been determined yet? I've done 5000Km on the RB's and there are an absolute blast, but sadly picked up the smoking issue last night Click here to enlarge, car pulls like a stream train, but when on lift off, approaching a stop, puff daddy !, not alot, but enough to make me want to burry myself in the driver seat.... some guy, says to be last night. "what a great looking 1M, pity the engine seems f%^ked" ...lol oh well.

Some the oil change seems to have help things or reduce the smoke? Really would like to get this worked out, but I'm not technical guru and just learning along the way....Any direction with be welcomed.

This is starting to get more and more prevalent. I don't know what the solution is other than to send them back? He has a warranty right?

From what I've come to understand, we should not exceed 20 psi users with the RB turbos.

I've only had the RB's on for 3 months since receiving them, and the mileage that I've racked up included to cross country trips. I've had very good service from Rob, lets see what he says later.

The issue only started yesterday, but will check this afternoon. Given that this is my my daily drive, I may need to get more mileage out to confirm the oil comsumption.

That maybe considered within the tolerance levels in terms of oil usage?

+1. I was down 3/4 of a quart after 3k miles on stockers and I just had my valve cover gasket and oil filter housing gasket replaced. I do have very light smoke coming from the exhaust so I am guessing my turbo seals are slightly leaking.

Ok, so I've chatted to Rob and the plan is as follows (nothing really different from the previous couple of pages)

    - montinor the oil usage for the next 2 / 3weeks
    - will remove the DP's to check for shaft play
    - Identifyt which bank the smoke is coming from, to me it looks like both side (quad exhaust on the 1M)

If all else fails I will ship the turbo back to Rob fo rhim to check them out. Thaks for the chat Rob and all the help!

    Thanks for the update.

So shaft play in the DP's can cause smoke as well?

Shaft play is measured by moving the turbo exhaust shaft, which requires moving the DPs. DPs do not have shafts or shaft play.
    Change is constant

You're right. I knew the way I phrased it was stupid when I wrote it not sure what I was thinking.

    From the internets:

The turbine piston ring is a circular spring steel alloy that is used to provide a dynamic seal between the turbine wheel and bearing housing. This seal relies on the turbine wheel design to keep oil away from the turbine housing as well as exhaust gases from entering the bearing housing assembly.

To my knowledge, when you start getting excessive in/out play, oil loves slipping past this seal when running the turbo near its limits, or if it's real bad, all the time. The oil that slips past the seal hits the heated exhaust gas (which is well past oils flash point at that location) giving you smoke out the exhaust usually under boost.
