    Reminds me a bit of the old Commodore Amiga demos when they would pile as many 'bobs' on the screen as possible, and use them to make shapes & objects.

    In theory it should be much more efficient than a polygon, since an 'atom' in a 3D space simply requires a single x/y/z coordinate; whereas a polygon requires calculations to make triangles, or whatever base shape it's using. However, I'm still not sure we have the hardware available to manipulate the billions of 'atoms' required to create a large area; even their demo looked to be dropping frames.

    But if they get it right, imagine destructive environments far greater than say the Frostbite engine.

    Oh my god.

    This is quite the break-through in technology if what they say is possible and can be accomplished by normal graphics-processors.

    The level of detail is ridiculous! I just want to know how they are able to process that many "atoms" in real-time!? I wonder if anyone else is using anything similar...

    There are a lot of doubters about this technology for now yes it's new but lets not give up because it is very close to reality vs the polygons.

    OK, it looks amazing.
    But. This is a snapshot of an environment. Nothing moves at all. Now release this engine to a dynamic environment, with wind, moving water, moving items, and see if this graphic engine and your CPU's and GPU's can keep track of all these atoms and keep up the frames/sec count at the same time.
    If this is the case, and I don't need 16 cores to run Shift2 with this, then I'm all for it.

    Technology Doubles every 6 months so lets say in 5 years this technology looks plausible.

    Well, according to their website, it will run in "real-time" for dynamic environments...hard to believe but we'll see.

    If it was so easy to run and code for on today's hardware, developers would be jumping on it. Everyone loves money and the "Game World" is a big part of making a great game these days.

    That being said, I can't wait to see if somebody will implement this technology into their game.

    *also- the way that it is 'unlimited' is that it uses the resolution of your display or displays to only show you as much detail as you can see (pixel limitations) at that time.

    This seems like it has promise but I do not exactly buy it. Why are they the only ones doing this? Just seems like a lot of fluff at this point.

    it's simple because you can charge more money every time you can use more polygons, this technology will reduce how much the industry spends on development, resulting in cheaper games and less money for them to collect.

    Do you even understand what this guy claims ? It means that Video card market will go to ASS because super video cards that cost $1000 will no longer be needed. Every game will have insane am\mount of detail and map size.
    Technology like this will have a super huge impact on anything that is connected to video gaming world.

    Yeah, ofcourse, but just saying if this company has somehow revolutionized the industry....then it may be that high-end cards that nvidia/amd make will not be required at this point in time, i'm sure they will be in the future.

    Additionally, if it is something seen as lucrative, I'm sure one of the two companies, if not intel corp, will buy them out.

    why will video card companies not like this? If anything, this company can take advantage of the power of these cards and they can create truly awesome graphics better than ever before, and $#@! all over the game companies.

    Dont hate the hardware, hate the software. Software companies are charging you up the ass for polygon games that need 2 gigs of graphics. can you imagine what this engine will do with 2 gigs of graphics? I think it sure as hell is worth 60 bucks for a game then.
