Top Gearr MP4-12C review, 458 Italia comparisons, 2nd fastest car around their track

They seem to fawn over it compared to the reviews thus far. Car was tested on the Top Gear track so is it really a surprise for it to set the second fastest time? Would have liked to see them run the 458 vs. it as well.

Actually it did. Mostly because of all the electronic TC and the very clever suspension. Which was mainly why JC didn't like the car. Too clinical. He 's more a Lamborghini man nowadays.

Jeremy said McLaren did their R&D on the Top Gear track. I would expect it to go well there.

Mmm, it was set up for road use, the R&D was done at the Top Gear test track.
Don't turn things around. Almost nobody irl gets the chance to drive their car around the Top Gear testtrack.
That said, it was no surprise it performed well there. But even then, it still had to perform to set the time. The Top Gear testtrack is designed to have real life corners and squeezes the best out of every car. I's more then just an airstrip with white lines.

It is a bit of a surprise. As with other tests, when put up on the same day against other competition. It hasn't stacked up well.

Don't excuse the fact that the TG test track is a great balance of all aspects of a track. It has slow sweeping turns, fast sweeping turns, and some high speed straights. To say its "set up for it" is something to consider but I wouldn't take that too literally. That car would likely own at mid ohio or lime rock with that same setup. Its just a fast car.

Maybe the 458 tested by Top Gear is not specially tuned and setup by Ferrari for the test

If Pagani developed the Zonda to set a laptime on a particular course, better believe they could do the same if not better.

It's a fast car of course but why did the car get beat by the 458 and GT2 RS on different courses?

I find this result very hard to believe, the car got lucky. must have been a perfect day and all conditions perfect with no mistakes

I wouldn't say no to one ... if I had that kind of money it would be a top first choice.

You see Lambos & Ferraris quite often .. a McLaren is not something you see every day (Unless you live in London .. !)

Where exactly is a 458 common? Nothing beats the badge appeal of a Ferrari, nothing.

well if the McLaren was set up and tested using the Top Gear track, i suppose the suspension and things would be set up perfect for this track unlike the ferrari 458's?
