Why not? The CSL is older yet still a superior vehicle in every way.

M3 CSL is IMO is the sickest M car made except for the fact that it was only available in SMG and not a 6 speed Click here to enlarge

1M reviews have been great so far. Would love to drive one. Im sure some aftermarket company will drop an M3 V8 or M5 V10 engine in it soon and that will be bonkers
    Current:
    14 Viper TA

I don't think these engines will fit in the front. I's already very full with a N54.
And a heavier engine will screw up the cars balance.

It's just certain people don't want to admit the N54 is a great motor. It can torque sideways through turns, on a damp track, stay balanced and beat the newest "real" M car with a cheaper price and much less rated horsepower.

Don't hate, it's a fun car. Hell even my 135i with just DCI & JB4 with good tires is fun. Never been in a open-diff car that could power-slide so well. Autocross times are good too, the low-end turbo torque really helps sling-shot the car forward, I can imagine the 1M would be quite the track car with a few mods, not that it isn't good stock.

What was the 1M's ring time?

If you have a 135i you can do yourself a favour and have a Wavetrack or Quaife LSD installed. It will transform your ride through corners and improbe your launches. It will fishtail more though.

Does the ring time solely determine how fun a car is to drive? The 1M quicker than the new M3 on certain tight tracks. I was faster than a new M3 with exhaust (6MT) at autocross tune only in my 135i (also 6MT). Yes, that is also driver related but technically I beat his performance in a car that is perceived to be inferior. For me, it was fun. Obviously, the stock N54 lacks the top end power of the stock S65. I would expect the new M3 to be faster on longer/faster average speed tracks.

Either way this isn't a "supercar" that is trying to beat every performance record, it's just a badass car that is fun and still comfortably "streetable". And any car is just a starting point as you know.... you could build either to be a track monster if you wanted.

I said best M car (of those ones that I've driven) in my opinion after actually driven 1M.

Some of you have your own definitions of M, whereas I go with BMW naming Click here to enlarge

This discussion reminds me about Porsche 911, which again - according to some small group of people - have not been 911s for over a decade any more.

Also, most of you internet warriors have not even driven the car, and still have a firm opinion Click here to enlarge

In my opinion this is a better car than most M-cars, so in principle, I have nothing against for calling it something better than M Click here to enlarge

You guys are talking down this great BMW only because it has turbos. You better get used to the idea of all M-cars being turbocharged. The engine of 1M is the best one there is out there currently at 2.5 - 3 liter category according to the International Engine of the Year Awards.

    I agree.

1M is a great BMW car no denying that. But all they did was take the Z4 engine, the M3 brakes and rear suspension and call it a day. Pretty lazy from the M division compared to their previous M cars.

Considdering how many they are gonna produce I say it is defendable.
And the combination seems to work really well.

Sorry man, but I kinda agree with him there. Like I said it is a great car and I'd love to have one. But if you gave me a choice between the 1M and a M3 CSL, I'd pick the CSL.

What if you were actually paying for it? Go try to find one for less than $47,000. I don't think the CSL is worth the money, $80,000+ if you can even find one? Might as well mod an E46 M3.

I mean, I know what you are saying, but realistically that is not a good comparison.

Trust me, I would love a turbo-charged/built up E46 M3 CSL. That would probably be the best BMW ever in my opinion. But the 1M is cheaper, easier/more cost effective to mod (HP/Dollar), fresh with new technologies, and fun.

Sounds like a good deal to me. I love my 135i and I'm going to love my 1M. And I'm going to kill my sales guy if he is lying about getting an allocation.

If money was involved, yeah I'd pick the 1M. I'm going off of the M3 CSL one of the best M3's ever made, if not the best against the new "best BMW M car".

No doubt, you'll have a blast with your 1M and I hope you get it. I really do think it's one of the best BMW cars out there. It's just hard to accept why the BMW M division is going this route with their cars. But I understand they did it to save costs with this economy were in.

You are changing the argument, talking about cost.

The guy stated, "The best M car ever".

The 1M is not even in the same league as cars like the CSL or M3 GTS. It is just a silly thing to say.
