Freaking finally! The DA42 IO-360 has been certified.

Some people might remember me starting a thread in the other OT about having to fly the Piper Seminole for my multi training due to the Diamond having trouble being certified( hear it was due to the Vmc demo). Well, they are finally certified and they will be replacing Riddle's aging Seminole fleet. Click here to enlarge

While I will finish my Multi-add on in the Seminole most likely, I look forward to flying the DA42 for my instrument and commercial rating. Click here to enlarge

pilots $150k....yea right! pilots fly because they love flying, not because of the pay. i went to the same school as OP, but different flight school. i trained on seminoles, but did most of my single engine work on DA-20's. diamond twin star's are badass, would love to have one as my personal plane one day.

Comercial Pilot LOL dont picture yourself driving a BMW anytime soon. One of the worst paid jobs even a MCDonald's manager makes more than the average pilot.

I do still sort of wish I was doing my multi-add on in the DA42. According to my instructor when Riddle had the DA42 with those POS diesel engines, they would not allow you to do short field landings. Which is a good thing for me as I find short field landings a pain in the butt.

I have read pilots make $250K max a year( that is Netjets biggest airplane which they only have two so it will be hard to get in there) after years of investing their lives into the career. You start off $#@!ty though. $17K/year. Considering what you do, it should be $50K minimum, IMHO.

actually, as having went through flight school, getting a degree in professional aeronautics, obtained a $#@!load of licenses, and worked for a short while in the private sector, i can tell you from FIRST HAND knowledge that pilots don't make $#@! for a good 10 years. a "ballin out of control" pilot makes around $150k at their peak...which is around 15 years of flight experience. through your first 5 years, you'll be lucky to clear $40k/yr BEFORE taxes. the next 5 years, you'll be lucky to clear $80k BEFORE taxes. this is assuming you get upgraded to captain and fly something decent like 737's, 757's, or their airbus equivalents. pilots fly for a living because they enjoy flying, but ask any of my flight school buddies that don't have another source of income, it's a struggle. many of them deal with constant furlough, layoffs, working 2 or 3 jobs just to make ends meet, strained family relationships from traveling so much, hotel to hotel, cutbacks from the company, post-9/11 security, etc. it's not as glamorous as it used to be. any honest pilot will tell you the exact same thing. the only people that make money in the airline industry are the oil companies and the executives.
