A race team in south Africa actually replaced the DME of a F30 n55 335i with a Motec M800 ECU with Direct Injection control.

Well, we won't agree on that one so its a waste of time, but the conditions of the track (VHT) and the 6MT vs 6AT launch capabilities differences alone makes this apples to oranges in my opinion, but...

Make sense, 1.5 60' on a 6MT is hard to do, AT has a important edge here on quarter mile track.
Will all that said, my point still holds, the video compares apples to oranges and has nothing to do...

The fueling issue here is more an octane problem than anything else I think.
I don't see pushing more than 16psi on pump 91 octane very realistic...

I fully agree... In fact the DME use that spark plug "noise" to detect ignition / pre-ignition / misfire.

Cobb added an option to log those individual cylinder advance, but it's always been used by the DME in the stock tune. The DME listen (via a knock sensor which is a microphone) and adjusts timing...
+1 swapping the injector sounds like the best bet, even just testing at idle once swapped without coding it.

Well the sad part of this is that we won't know precisely, we just can assume things and try to know from what we have. Rob, Shiv and Terry know a lot more for sure. With that being said its was "fun...
