Interesting matchup here between a 2011 E92 335is with a Renntech tune on its N54 motor with DCT transmission and Dinan exhaust versus a stock 2013 Mustange Boss 302 with drag radials. This drag race takes place at Palm Beach International Raceway in Florida and it appears to be a warm/humid day with density altitude stated to be at 2000+. The 335is is able to just edge out the Mustang in ET (despite redlighting) with a 12.40@111 to the Mustang's 12.42@113. ...Published on 01-30-2013 05:10 PM
And just like that, the owner of Mfest (Chris Naguit's) power play has failed. Just seven days ago BimmerBoost posted its story regarding MFest targeting the same date as BimmerFest and less than a week later the announcement comes that MFest will be changing its date. Mounting pressure forced by BimmerBoost and its members as well as its vendors who were asked to choose BimmerFest instead has forced Chris Naguit and MFest to reevaluate the previously "unchangeable" date. ...Published on 01-29-2013 09:32 PM
And another widebody option for the E92 M3 enters the market. Introducing the Duke Dynamics E92 M3 widebody kit. This kit consists of nine pieces including the front fenders, rear fenders, side skirts, front bumper, rear bumper, and rear diffuser. Options for the material of the body pieces are either FRP (fiber reinforced plastic) for $5,650 or carbon fiber for $9,050. The pricing makes the kit a very good value namely in FRP. ...Published on 01-29-2013 01:11 PM
Great run videos here from BimmerBoost member TZ04XJR. He has the E60 M5 which is the camera car in the videos and his modifications consist of an Evolve R-Tune, RPI Intake, and a muffler delete. The E55 AMG has an exhaust which is not named and the C6 Z06 is completely stock. The M5 makes fairly easy work of the E55 AMG which is to be expected of a car that just has the exhaust versus a tuned M5 which shows its strength from a roll even when the E55 gets the jump. ...Published on 01-28-2013 05:22 PM
BMW currently has been getting smacked around by, well, everyone in the German performance scene. The M3 has remained basically stagnant while Mercedes continues to improve the C63 AMG with available options to increase horsepower as well as hardcore black series variants for which BMW has no answer. The M3 GTS being the closest thing but that is not available in the United States. And even if it was there still is the SLS AMG Black Series not to mention the other Black Series models Mercedes has released and in the pipeline. ...Published on 01-25-2013 04:00 PM
BimmerBoost visited ModBargains located in La Habra, California last month after the whole BimmerPost/Modbargains debacle. Mike Brown from ModBargains was nice enough to invite me down to tour the facility and see their operations for myself. I came away impressed with what I saw as well as the size of the business. For whatever reason early on when reading on BMW forums when I saw the name bargains I associated it with value parts which is clearly not the case. ...Published on 01-25-2013 03:10 PM
Interesting development here in the automotive world with BMW and Toyota signing a formal agreement for collaboration. This seems some what similar to agreement between Toyota and Subaru in the development of the BRZ sports coupe. BMW and Toyota will develop a mid-size sports car and will jointly research the technologies to be used. These include a fuel cell system, lightweight materials, and lithium-ion battery technology. ...Published on 01-24-2013 02:46 PM
Here is a video that will do a better job explaining the difference between a supercharged and standard M3 than any dyno numbers ever will. The camera car is a 6-speed manual E92 M3 with a supercharged S65 V8 courtesy of an ESS VT2-625 kit. The other M3 is also a 6-speed manual but not supercharged and seemingly in a stock configuration. The difference is illustrated quite well with the distance between the two measured in miles rather than car lengths. ...Published on 01-23-2013 10:50 PM
Well, well, well. It finally happened, a power struggle between the two main SoCal California BMW meets in the early party of the year. Yes, Mfest takes place in Las Vegas but it is mostly SoCal BMW fans making the drive. So, we now have a power struggle vying for the same market at the same time with Bimmerfest scheduled for May 18 and Mfest scheduled for May 17-19. So which one does a SoCal BMW fan choose? The answer is Bimmerfest. ...Published on 01-23-2013 01:03 PM
It seems like everyone in the mid-size luxury sedan segment is giving their cars a facelift and BMW will be joining the fray. The Porsche Panamera is getting an external facelift with driveline changes. The facelifted W212 Mercedes E-Class was recently revealed with exterior changes and driveline changes. That begs the question if the BMW F10 facelift will just be cosmetic as BMW often does or if there will be changes under the skin as well. ...Published on 01-22-2013 01:34 PM
Having owned this car since brand new back in October 2001, I knew this car was special to me. Everything from the size of the car, the simple interior, and my favorite, the character of the S54B32 just seemed perfect to me. Several years ago, I started to embark on this journey of pulling out more and more power from the motor. I set a very strict philosophy in that regardless of what modifications I do, I cannot ruin the character of the award winning S54B32. The engine just has so much soul and life to it, I did not want to take away anything from the inline-6 personality, if ever I want to enhance it in every way possible. ...Published on 01-21-2013 11:21 AM
The e-mails below come to us from a user who switched from ESS to Evolve tuning. This is not uncommon, a lot of people have been making this switch lately and it seems to be making ESS uncomfortable. They have not made many of these claims publicly but you can see how they operate behind the scenes with it essentially boiling down to implying Evolve is not capable of doing their own tuning, their tuning could be dangerous, and that Evolve has to resort to modifying the ESS software. ...Published on 01-21-2013 01:01 AM
A lot of Z2 rumors are floating around the web right now and Autocar is also getting into the mix claiming the model is planned and coming for 2015. Autocar states they talked to unnamed "BMW officials" one of whom stated, “We are considering a car in the spirit of the original Z3." Convenient that this supposed official can't be named. The original Z3 however was not a cheap front wheel drive vehicle borrowing parts from Mini so this car will be nothing like the original Z3 which was 100% BMW. ...Published on 01-19-2013 07:40 PM
MotorTrend tested the 2012 F12 BMW 650i convertible with the optional all wheel drive xDrive system. Very nice that BMW offers optional all wheel drive on the 650i and the convertible F12 version. The all wheel drive does not come without a penalty however with curb weight ballooning to an incredible 4673 pounds. It is hard to defend that kind of heft in a company touting Efficient Dynamics with lightweight materials. ...Published on 01-18-2013 01:05 PM
To get a lot more power of the E92 M3 in NA form beyond bolt ons increasing the displacement is really the way to go. An extra 600cc's is a nice chunk to pick up made possible by the relatively short stroke in stock form providing quite a bit of room to grow. However, the LS6 V8 under the hood of the C5 Z06 is sill larger at 5.7 liters. With an aggressive cam only the Z06 can put out in the 420 wheel range and with exhaust and intake 450 wheel is within reason. ...Published on 01-17-2013 05:30 PM
How this guy gets away with this and also is able to put this on youtube with no punitive action is beyond BimmerBoost. In America, the the Police would be knocking on his door right away. Well, the former Soviet Republic of Georgia isn't America and one could argue about who actually has more freedom to do what they want. Things get handled a little differently over there and if you have money or know the right people you can tear through the streets like this guy does. ...Published on 01-16-2013 06:21 PM
Bavaria, we have a problem. The new M3 is coming and it isn't packing enough of a punch under the hood. We knew it would have a turbocharged inline-6 but we did not seriously think it would only have another 30 horses on the E9X M3 with its 414 horsepower naturally aspirated V8. The new C63 AMG is rumored to have a twin turbo 4.0 liter V8 and considering the C63 AMG (in Black Series trim) already is putting out more to the wheels than this M3 will be rated at the crank let alone what the new turbo C63 AMG will put out the new M3 is going to get smacked around badly if this is true. ...Published on 01-16-2013 12:45 PM
There was some concern that there may not be much room to gain with a tune on the new M5/M6 with their S63TU motors. After all, the S63TU in those cars versus the S63 in the X5M/X6M has more boost at 22 psi versus 17 psi and higher compression at 10.0:1 versus 9.3:1. Fortunately, there is still some room in the higher strung S63TU as Gintani demonstrated with their Stage I dyno tune on 91 octane California pump gas. ...Published on 01-16-2013 02:42 AM
This is somewhat awkward. BMW will sell a 320i in North America. It will be cheaper than a 328i. The thing is, it will have the exact same motor, the N20 turbo direct injected four cylinder, just with 60 less horsepower. By all accounts thus far, there are no hardware changes to the motor. It seems it is only different software for the 320i. So that begs the question, why even opt for the 328i? To have the factory 240 horsepower with a warranty? ...Published on 01-15-2013 02:14 PM
Seems ALMS is letting BMW get away with bending the rules. BMW will race in 2013 and will race in the ALMS GT class with the Z4 GTE. It was obvious BMW was going to make some kind of change when they started complaining last year after the Mosport Grand Prix that the new technical regulations were slowing down the M3 GT race cars too much especially in the straightaways. Supposedly the regulations were costing BMW four miles per hour. ...
