This turbo 3-cylinder motor will be featured in various models in the BMW lineup for some time to come. Most recently it was featured in the BMW Concept Active Tourer and will be a staple of the "i" model lineup. The motor features a turbocharger, direct injection, and Valvetronic. Each cylinder has a displacement of 500cc's. It can be viewed as basically half an N55 turbo motor which is currently powering the 335, 535, etc. ...Published on 09-15-2012 12:20 AM
Here is a peak into the engine bay of the upcoming 2014 F80 M3. And yes, that engine bay definitely looks to be tight so working on it is not going to be a ton of fun. With the cramped bay and turbo (or multiple turbos) heat management will be an issue. That is why you see an aluminum water to air intercooler sitting on top of the motor. As far as power, with the new M5 sporting around 520-530 wheel horsepower stock, the new M3 should be within 100 wheel of that based on precedent. ...Published on 09-14-2012 09:40 PM
BMW is interested in purchasing De Tomaso as talks between the two for this reason were confirmed. The question is, why? De Tomaso has not done anything of merit for automotive enthusiasts since the Pantera in the 70's and went into liquidation in 2004. The value here clearly is not in production capacity or in acquiring a profitable carmaker. The only thing De Tomaso offers is the name and Italian heritage. ...Published on 09-13-2012 10:00 PM
Introducing the BMW Active Tourer plug-in hybrid which borrows technology from the BMW i8. BMW created this concept in response to growth in the small and compact luxury segment. BMW would likely slot such a vehicle underneath the 1-Series and it is not clear if it would be a one off vehicle or the start of a whole new BMW series. BMW also applies the term eDrive to the car which will from now on denote all electric and plug-in hybrid models in the BMW lineup. ...Published on 09-12-2012 08:51 PM
BimmerBoost would like to extend a warm welcome to Active Autowerke. Most of you already know the name and Active Autowerke is one of the most widely known BMW tuning firms in the United States and also one of the most established having celebrated its 30th anniversary last year. Active Autowerke has it all for your BMW from superchargers, to exhausts, to tunes, to suspension components, to your drivetrain, etc., they have you covered. ...Published on 09-11-2012 04:03 AM
A lot of excitement is being generated with independent dynos coming out showing the F10 M5 being significantly underrated. Here is a dyno video of a stock F10 M5 on a Mustang Dyno in 87 degree weather putting down 534 wheel horsepower (SAE). These runs were done in 4th gear and clearly support the 527 wheel horsepower numbers shown on the dynojet in SAE correction by IND. ...Published on 09-11-2012 02:42 AM
Introducing the 2013 F02 760Li V12 25 Year Anniversary Edition. BMW first introduced the V12 in road going cars in 1987 with the BMW 750il. Only 15 of these cars will be created at a price point of $159,695. That is a lot of money for a car that just gets some different interior trim options, 20 inch wheels, and some dark exterior trim. The price is over $20,000 over the standard car and there are no engine tweaks included. An Alpina B7 makes a lot more sense at $132,395 unless one absolutely has to have a V12. ...Published on 09-08-2012 05:04 AM
Here is a nice little boosted M3 battle for your viewing pleasure. This comes courtesy of BimmerBoost member LostMarine who is the camera car with his supercharged DCT E92 M3 running the ESS VT1-535 kit with a higher boost pulley and meth. The white E90 M3 belongs to BimmerBoost member akh23456 also being a DCT car but running an Active Autowerke Stage 2+ setup with a bigger blower and meth. The final car is running the ESS VT2-600 supercharger kit with a catless exhaust. ...Published on 09-07-2012 06:30 PM
Well here we have independent curb weight and weight distribution numbers from our Premier Vendor IND-Distribution. Yes, we all knew the F10 M5 was going to be heavy and we all saw BMW's own released figures which measure the car at 4387 with the DCT. So, the results here actually undercut BMW a bit but damn is the car a porker. BMW also states the weight distribution for the car at 52.5% front and 47.% rear which is spot on with their claims and still beats the new Audi's considerably. ...Published on 09-06-2012 08:56 PM
If someone mentioned this but did not provide a video it would be almost impossible to believe. Absolutely draw dropping someone took it to this level. What you are about to see is a BMW that is the victim of its ricer owners incredibly poor taste and automotive knowledge. Now, we all respect people who want to modify their cars but there is a point where it simply reaches hilarity and this is most certainly that point. Let's start with the fact the car is not even an M3. ...Published on 09-06-2012 06:41 PM
Ok, follow on this one folks. Even though the new 4 Series designation is for two door cars the Gran Coupe version having four doors will under the 4 Series name because it is said to be a four door "coupe." Somewhat make sense? Regardless as the 6 Series Gran Coupe has been very well received and is a stunning design BMW hopes to repeat the success on a smaller scale using the 3 Series platform. ...Published on 09-05-2012 08:30 PM
We knew the upgraded S63tu (technical update) Twin Turbo 4.4 liter V8 in the F10 M5 would be stronger than the standard S63 Twin Turbo V8 4.4 liter units in the X5M and X6M even accusing BMW of sandbagging. We just did not think it would be this much stronger. We first reported on the differences between the S63 V8's in the M SUV's and the F10 M5 in June of last year and the M5 S63tu V8 has higher compression at 10.0:1 versus 9.3:1 and runs more boost at 22 psi versus 17 psi for the SUV's. ...Published on 09-04-2012 11:53 PM
Here we have three runs between a Cobb Stage 2 tuned BMW 335i and a tuned Boss Mustang from a stop. The first run has both cars approaching a light and the Boss gets on it first and pulls steadily away. On the second run there appears to be some miscommunication during the honks and the 335i gets a large jump with the Boss being unable to run it down. The third run seems to be the cleanest with a nice launch from the 335i but the Boss makes up ground before the 335i lets off. ...Published on 09-04-2012 05:10 PM
It is getting harder and harder to be a BMW fan. When the controversial decision was made for BMW to leave Formula 1 it was justified using the economic downturn as the reasoning. BMW profits are up, they are selling more cars than ever, and they have money to spare. Unfortunately that money is going to the BMW "i" brand and into new GT models instead of the top level of Motorsport. BMW seems content with ALMS and DTM and rules out any return to Formula 1 at this time. ...Published on 09-03-2012 04:21 PM
KW has released coilover suspensions upgrades for the new V10 M5 consisting of their V3 and Clubsport systems. EDC (BMW electronic dampening control) is disabled with these and a EDC delete module prevents any codes or errors from showing in the car. The V3's allow adjustment in dampening and rebound. The clubsport coilovers are either 2 or 3 way adjustable in damping and also contain external fluid reservoirs. ...Published on 08-31-2012 01:32 PM
Velos Designwerks continues to show exceptional command of the BMW N63 V8 Twin Turbo V8 by setting a new horsepower record on the platform. Just a few weeks ago they hit 441 wheel horsepower with BimmerBoost member Jimefam's 6-speed manual 550i with AR Design downpipes. They have raised the bar to 461 wheel horsepower (STD on a dynojet). This is basically F10 M5 level horsepower. ...Published on 08-30-2012 08:33 PM

The Nurburgring has become a sort of standard to measure track performance. Manufacturers tout their laptimes as evidence of this performance but the problem is there is not a set standard to follow. This leads to a bit of confusion regarding times and the video below of an M3 achieving a laptime of 7:36 is the perfect example of this. Why? Well, the explanation is below but not all Nurburgring laptimes are created equal. ...Published on 08-29-2012 07:45 PM
M5 vs. M3. One of the great debates of our time that has the potential to turn any BMW message board into a full blown e-riot. When the DCT M3 first came out many M5 owners refused to believe the M3 could keep up with it. Well, reality is it definitely can especially from down low where the lower weight and dual clutch transmission help versus the more powerful (and heavier) M5. ...Published on 08-29-2012 01:12 PM
Those in the BMW M3 S65 V8 tuning community know that supercharged S65 V8 stroker motors have been tried before and the latest experiement ended in colossal failure. G-Power seems to have the first successfully tuned and running supercharged stroker S65 V8. They take the displacement up from 4.0 liters to 4.6 liters courtesy of increased stroke from a custom crank and add their SKII supercharger kit to boost output to 720 horsepower. ...
