This came about pretty quickly, BMW will display their concept for the F26 BMW X4 at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show in January. With Porsche set to launch the Macan SUV and Mercedes producing a GLA SUV the Luxury Sport Utility segment keeps getting tighter with manufacturers looking to squeeze into every niche possible. The X4 will likely mimic what the X6 does which is take an existing platform, in this case the X3, and change the styling a bit into what BMW calls a SAC (Sport Activity Coupe). ...Published on 11-17-2012 01:15 AM
Always fun to see these comparisons especially with how much stronger 28i models have gotten now thanks to the new N20 turbocharged 2.0 liter four-cylinder. Insideline decided to see just how big the difference between the N20 xDrive28i and the N55 xDrive35i are. The result is that even though the new N20 four cylinder is a considerable improvement over the N52 naturally aspirated 3.0 liter inline-6 but the N55 is still a much stronger motor. ...E60 M5 with bolt ons / tune takes on a Gallardo with bolt ons and a tune from a roll on the airstrip

When the Gallardo and E60 M5 first came out this was always an interesting battle. Could a luxury sports sedan from BMW for about $100k less take on a dedicated sports car from Lamborghini? What was impressive about the M5 is that it had a similar high revving V10 engine with about 5.0 liters of displacement. Same style of motor that is right at home in a mid-engine Lamborghini sports car was essentially under the hood of a 5 Series BMW. ...Published on 11-14-2012 08:02 PM
Ok, this is quite simply just flat out cool. BMW Motorrad will honor their 90th Anniversary with a retro re-launch of sorts. The very first BMW motorcycle in 1923 was called the R 32. It featured an air-cooled, horizontally opposed (boxer) two-cylinder 4-stroke motor. The new version of the R 32 will feature a motor with the same specs but updated output/tuning. The bike and motor will obviously be updated with modern engineering and manufacturing processes when it is produced next year. ...Published on 11-14-2012 02:03 AM
Last night I hit the dyno to see what the car can do with the new ported N54 cylinder head, RB turbos, 3.5bar TMAP sensor from the new BMW N20 four-cylinder motor, FBO (catless), pump 94 octane and meth, stock turbo inlet pipes. Key thing here, this is with a tune that sees ZERO timing corrections everywhere on all cylinders and timing that is set right at MBT for this level of boost and this car's given octane. I've run the car on the street with this exact setup this morning, number of pulls, it's pretty ridiculous. ...Published on 11-13-2012 06:47 PM
Definitely hate the 4-Series name but loving the shape so far. The car still is camouflaged but it appears wearing far less of its disguise in these new spyphotos. Fairly easy to make out the basic shape of the car which looks much sportier than the F30 3-Series. Reports from Autoblog who provided these pictures state the car may be a 440i which doesn't make too much sense considering it will share the 3-Series drivetrain from the new F30. BMW may intend to release a hotter version of the N55 inline-6 cylinder and simply call it a 440i but this would really be the first time a 440i model was rumored. ...Published on 11-13-2012 02:31 AM
Finding quality turbo manifold options for BMW's in not an easy proposition these days especially for the S54. Unfortunately, the companies who put in the time to properly design high quality manifolds often have their designs ripped off and sent to Asian fabricators who copy the design and undercut the market. Manifold companies have closed up shop due to this so we are all thankful people like the guys at Doc Race are still bringing quality manifolds to market. ...Published on 11-11-2012 01:01 AM
Wow, simply wow. Congratulations to ICS Performance for raising the bar considerably in the M50/S50 engine game. ICS was able to hit 1142 horsepower to the wheels and 1042 pound-feet of wheel torque on a dynojet in SAE correction. This is with a twin turbo forged internal built motor low compression setup running twin GT3076r turbos and custom camshafts. The car was tuned by Vic Sias of Sias Tuning. ...Published on 11-09-2012 07:28 PM
BimmerBoost members, over the last couple of weeks we have been testing the Rotrex 91 trim on our stock engine shop car. So far our findings have been very promising. The biggest thing we have noticed is a large increase in efficiency, the blower makes the same if not more power running lower boost pressures with a marked difference in flow to redline. As of right now nothing is set in stone and things may change with additional long term testing. ...Published on 11-08-2012 05:31 PM
This is a rather short review from Autocar but it makes some very good points. The main question being, have the new M cars lost a bit of their hardcore edge sacrificing it for refinement and daily usability? If one wanted more comfort and a car that was not as hardcore that is the market AMG would traditionally cater to. So is the M6 now compromised and designed more to appeal to the masses with some of its edge dulled? ...Published on 11-07-2012 08:41 PM
The new M6 and the Jaguar XKR-S are definitely in a similar segment making for a good comparison between the two GT's. Both are sporty coupes offerings rear seats although neither car truly offers comfortable seating for four adults. Regardless, on paper the specs are fairly similar both featuring direct injected V8's with forced induction that route the power to the rear wheels. The difference being the BMW offers a twin turbo 4.4 liter V8 with 560 horsepower and the Jaguar a supercharged 5.0 liter V8 with 550 horsepower. ...Published on 11-07-2012 01:57 PM
I have been a customer of both ESS (since 2008) and Evolve (since 2010). I had issues with three separate tunes from ESS. Two Naturally Aspirated header tunes where (1) AJ@ESS forgot to turn on the rear O2's, (2) raised my rev limiter to 8,200 where I specifically requested 8000 (and o2's on) on my invoice, (3) cruise control errors after flash, and (4) ESS SMG software REFUSED to upshift in auto mode at redline. The mishap wasn't that big of a deal in my eyes, until I contacted AJ for some help. ...Published on 11-07-2012 01:27 AM
A lot of comparisons have been made between the 5.0 Mustang and the M3 despite these being cars appealing to different demographics. The M3 being the benchmark of its class and a more expensive vehicle so it should surprise nobody that Ford aspires to compare against the best. What is surprising however is that this Mustange 5.0 running a Roush supercharger pushing 9 psi of boost has its hands more than full with a DCT M3 running an entry level non-intercooled supercharger kit with only 6 psi of boost. ...Published on 11-06-2012 06:37 PM
In case anyone was doubting what Evolve Automotive regarding their tubular headers here is proof of the performance. An E60 M5 owner with the Evolve tubular headers (ceramic coated) and Evolve tune ran 11.6, 11.7, and 12.0 hitting the highest trap speed of 121 miles per hour. Excellent ET's but the trap speed is not as good as it could be due to a couple miles per hour being scrubbed off thanks to the shorter gears this owner is running thanks to a 3.91 final drive. ...Published on 11-05-2012 06:02 PM
This is a very common question we get from the V10 community. We thought it would be a good idea to post up a brief write up about why it is that so many owners with tubular headers (evolve / supersprint etc) are achieving near or over 500whp dynojet and 460+ dyno dynamics consistently across the world. To show you we have taken some pictures comparing the stock primaries to that of a long tube header design. In this case it's the Evolve one as that's all we have but it gives you a very clear illustration: ...Published on 11-05-2012 04:00 PM
The BMW M Performance Steering wheel is just quite simply way cool. The newer version of the wheel sports an updated LCD screen which is capable of displaying fuel economy/efficient dynamics index and the water/oil temperature. When put in sports mode the wheel will display performance information such as how many g's you are pulling when cornering and display a shift light. This data is all stored and can be referenced later as it would be difficult to do so while cornering. ...Published on 11-03-2012 04:55 PM
Seems BMW is preparing for a European economic meltdown. We all know the global economy is in turmoil and BMW is being proactive about it. Last month BMW agreed to a deal with employees that would allow them if necessary to end extra shifts, force mandatory holidays on employees, and remove certain overtime privileges in case of a crisis. These changes allow BMW to survive up to a 30% sales downturn without posting a loss. ...Published on 11-02-2012 03:35 PM
BimmerBoost was very impressed with this swap done by G-Power as reported in September when the car was revealed. Take a 1-Series, swap in the M3's S65 V8, supercharge it, and then give it 1M body work for an excellent recipe. G-Power states the vehicle has about 600 horsepower which certainly sounds about right. In the video below you can see what the car sounds like as well as get an idea of the performance offered. ...Published on 10-30-2012 09:05 PM
GermanBoost coverage of SEMA 2012 will be split into three days simply due to the size of the show this year. It looks bigger than ever and quite simply is packed. This set of photos covers wheels and tires as well as whatever else that was interesting that happened to be in the hall. Overall, quite an enjoyable first day with a ton to look at and some very high quality booth babes. Enjoy the photos with descriptions below. ...Published on 10-29-2012 11:42 AM
Here is simply a flat out sick build from Precision Sport in Florida. They start with a stock E63 M6 in silver and then proceed to go nuts. The car gets a matte black vinyl wrap, orange HRE 590R rims, Akrapovic titanium exhaust system, KW Variant 3 suspension, Agency Power S85 headers, Vorsteiner carbon lip and rear boot, Okada Plasma coils, and a G-Power SKII S85 V10 supercharger system on top of all of that. ...
