Motortrend was wrong: F10 M5 will have dual clutch transmission, not automatic

EVO confirmed with a pre-production test drive that the F10 M5 will indeed have a dual clutch transmission. You may all remember the hoopla Motortrend created with their report that it would be automatic only. This is one of those times where it is important to hold a magazine accountable for sensationalism and just trying to generate buzz based on false information which definitely hurts MotorTrend's credibility. What DCT unit will it have? Well, chances are, with the torque the M5 will be generating it may get the Getrag unit out of the California which is rated to hold 553 pound-feet. It may even have to be a modified Getrag 7DCL750 as the M3 7DCI600 can only hold 440 pound-feet.

Much better than being auto only. Remember this no manual stuff started with the E60...

0-60 at these levels is traction dependent. On drag radials I hit something around a 3.8 in my M3 with bolt on's, doesn't mean I could do that on the street though.

This car will trap 122-125, vaulting it way ahead of the pack. Only competition will be Mercedes with their 5.5 liter TT but the DCT should put the M5 ahead of that. Don't know if the next gen RS6 will hang but being AWD and likely auto along with smaller displacement things are looking good for the M5.

I dunno, 0-60 and 1/4 mile times are useless with BMW's. Their prowess has always been, and hopefully always will be, handling on a road course. In that regard the new M5 will obliterate the CTS-V, hands down. Especially if they put in the rumored KERS for the street system.

The M5 with the E39 was a brute force car that could do everything. I think this M5 is going to be much like the E39 in that respect.

I have no doubt the next M3 and most BMW M cars will start being DCT's, they have basically said so.

The E60 only got a manual in the US and didn't sell well with it...

I hope so, the TT V-8 will definitely be torquier than the V-10 so that should help 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. Still, it will be Nurburgring times I look forward to.
On a side note: I saw a car a few months back that was the definition of the reason why I'll never own a Cadillac. It was a CTS-V driven by an older white lady, with the full GOLD PKG!!! YUCK!!! Gold grilles, gold emblems, chrome rims with the gold Caddy emblems on them, just horrendous. And it was new!!!! Still had the dealer sticker in the windshield we get here in CA. Just because that car exists there will never be a Caddy in my garage, unless I decide to take up pimping for a living (which my wife might have a problem with)

I called it, I knew the motortrend report is bull$#@!. Those reporters dont know $#@! about cars and will puke anything they can to get website hits. Bunch of bull$#@! reporting, I was right!

Transmission will be limiting factor but that can be addressed.

Especially since the F10 550i with just a Dinan tune and nothing else gets from 400hp to 495hp, WHOO-HOO!!!! The M5 will be a BEAST!!!! Unfortunately, you're right, it will be limited by whatever the transmission will be able to handle.

BMW will get it right. You have to trust
them. No, it will not make every one happy. But it is not like M is going to f*uk up the M5. The monster is coming, soon. This has the potential to re-write the " Executive Performance Sedan" book like the E39 M5 did. And loved the pimpin statement, hilarious. And didn't know they still sold gold packages. Wow!
