APR releases supercharger kit for the S5 with the 4.2 FSI V8 - $13k + 142 AWHP

Are they still putting that engine in the s5? Makes me wonder why they aren't using the S/C V6 like the S4. At least it sounds good.

They put the S/C V6 in the convertible S5.

This is going to apply to all the S5 V8's and that car should be getting the 3.0 TFSI SC V6 soon I would think.

There's always been controversy and the occasional scams between different tuning companies offering s/c kits for the 4.2 V8, none that I will name (however easy to search on google). Mods of these kinds are sparse for the car, and gains that have been promised are not without serious mechanical problems. There are plenty of "essay" like write-ups on other Audi forums explaining these problems from those customers. APR on the other hand has been proven worthy thus far, so we'll see what happens. Personally, I'm not touching my S5. S/c is just a waste of money on an already heavy/underpowered platform.

.......After driving with the kit on for approximately 2-3K miles I was on the parkway headed south, and BOOM, oil started spilling out of the exhaust of the car with a Xmas tree display on my dashboard. It was obvious something happened to the motor, but didnt know what. Immediately called up Pat and Tony, who said to have it towed home so that they could send up a truck to bring it to their shop. They held their word on the tow. Long story made as short as possible, the motor blew because the intercooler on the top of the blower leaked coolant into cylinder no. 1 and hydrolocked the motor (VER BATIM from Pat AND Tony) Now I needed a motor........I broke down with the car in Staten Island while it was just sitting there running at idle. Had it towed. Pat tried to diag the car over the phone telling me it was the fuel pump with my mileage. I go to Audi and lay another 1000.00 out for a fuel pump only to go get the car with the same thing happening. Now she goes back to PES. The car sat there for 3 WEEKS without them taking even one minute to diag the car properly......

But I do find it interesting your sig/garage only show you having B5 S4's so why would you be "buying" a s/c for a B6/7?




But yea I'll pass on buying into what I consider one of the biggest scam/ripoffs/lies/embarrassment/disappointments/etc the audi community has seen to date by a company that seems perfectly okay with that approach. My opinion of course, but based on facts that we had to gather since PES was unwilling to provide them and then they refuse to really acknowledge the answers we've found.

Well if you exclude the PES R8 that basically screwed, then the Se blower might be one of the worst campaign's for a product:

I don't personally have it, but I have gotten input from many who do. Some people with the old tune have 0 issues, however some have blown their motor up. I think that the general consensus is that the latest tune is definitely going to cause problems and negatively affect the reliability of the motor. RAI should be coming out with a Unitronic tune for the G3 some time this year; Other than that your only option is to have a custom tune performed, which honestly is the best option if you have anything other than the G3 slapped on a stock 3.0L.

This is the major compromise in intake mani design I was referring to. Its also the reason companies in the USA have a tough time selling their s/c kits. So far, the TVS1320 app we've developed is the only one that maintains repeatable power. A lot of guys over here wanted more power from our kit. They get a few ponies less than what other companies offer but they get it every time they hit the accelerator.

Its also the same reason people can't dramatically improve their 1/4 mile times with the current kits available. People were only seeing .1-.3 seconds improvement in their 1/4 mile times. Its because the first 2 gears from the tree make a ton of improvement but about half way down the track, heatsoak sets in and they make stock or worse acceleration for the end of the pass resulting in only a slight improvement over the stock ET.

You also suggest such shortfalls in general with the M90 though Keith, my experience so far shows otherwise....

I did 6 x 1/4 miles runs a few weeks ago at Santapod (Euro's No 1 drag strip). 3 were back to back, i.e. straight off the end of the strip and immediately back on the tree (no queues as the strip preperation was so poor no one else was running at the time). I got one reasonable launch, take into consideration I'm on a stock clutch so was taking it easy! The third of the 3 runs I hit my best 12.5 / 114mph, the other 2 were both 12.8's because I bogged down trying to avoid lighting up all 4 wheels or damaging the clutch. This trap was 1.1secs and 13mph better than my pre-charger install consistant traps of 13.6secs / 101mph with hard 3-4k rpm launches (same track). I also had one run with a trap speed of 115mph but cocked up the launch and ended up with a 12.9secs, this was a 2nd run having sat in a queue for 10 mins after the first so if there was going to be any heatsoak I'd have thought it would be then, yet clearly 3rd and 4th gears pulled strong for that trap speed.

The 12.5secs run was far from the best my car can produce, for a number of reasons...

1. As already said I'm still running stock clutch and having only had the car for 3 days, was playing it safe (2k rmp feathered launches).
2. I don't know the optimal rpm for gear changes yet.
3. I'm using a short shifter which is definately slowing down my changes (if I can't get smooth, fast changes on this I'm going back to stock shifter)
4. Considering how everone keeps banging on about how the M90 isn't up to the task I supppose I should also assume there must have been some amount of heatsoak on this run?

I have a Racelogic P/Box and plan on doing some recorded runs as I really need to suss out optimal rpm for gear changes and and I've promised them to others already. It'll be interesting to see to what extent, if any, this heatsoak plays. Be sure I'll do as you suggest and will happily report back, no matter the results, for all to see just as I have with everything so far.

I, and others present, believe the car is good for 12.3-12.2secs / 115-116mph. I should be returning to the strip on the 27th so keep an eye out for the results.

The UK based RS4 M112 hasn't run yet but based on what it did on the strip with the M90 installed they're expecting to hit 12 secs dead or better and I believe they'll do it. However this wont be on stock intercooler, they're thinking outside the box on this side, very clever and not expensive but I can't say more as it's not place to do so. With all due respect I think based on your current views you'll be shocked.

Depressing, seems like the after-market Audi scene is full of these fraudulent companies. I assumed they were full of $#@! because those numbers $#@! on the R8 v10.
