APR's Stage III upgrade makes for a very nice boost to MKVI Golf R vehicles. The 6-Speed manual Volkswagen Golf R is capable of 11's in the 1/4 mile with the APR Stage III kit. The upgraded Garrett GTX2867R clearly makes a considerable difference and on dynos with 93 octane pump gas has been shown to boost power to 420 wheel horsepower from the stock 273 wheel horsepower. ...Published on 12-17-2012 05:52 PM
Not really surprising especially with even the high end VW brands now incorporating plug-in technology such as Porsche with their 918 Spyder. More cars in the VW portfolio will be going the plug-in hybrid offering as the MKVII Volkswagen Golf is set to receive the technology in 2014. VW's head of electric development Rudolf Krebs stated, "Plug-in hybrids offer the best of the two worlds (of purely electric drives and combustion engines. This is an interesting matchup between two cars with similar sized and turbocharged four cylinder motors. The main difference here being that the GTI has front wheel drive and the Evo 8 is an all wheel drive vehicle. The front wheel drive layout of the GTI actually helps it in this race despite its smaller turbo due to lower drivetrain losses as it is able to pull the Mitsubishi Evo in a couple of the videos although it is very close between the two. ...Published on 12-11-2012 02:43 AM
Not really all that surprising that VW is axing this model considering how mini-van's are not longer in style and have not been for quite some time. The Routan is produced in a plant in Canada and the current contract of production has expired and won't be renewed for this model. A Routan successor simply is not in the cards especially considering the poor sales performance of the model in the United States. Here is Volkswagen's WRC (World Rally Challenge) effort for 2013 courtesy of the Volkswagen Polo R WRC. VW devleoped this vehicle over a 17 month period and launched it this past week in Monaco. The car has a 6-speed sequential manual transmission and a 1.6 liter TSI four-cylinder motor which is limited to 300 horsepower courtesy of restrictors. The Volkswagen Eos hardtop convertible will be killed off by Volkswagen permanently. No second generation model, no successor to replace it. The move makes sense as there would be overlap in the model range with the Beetle Convertible not to mention the Golf Convertible as well. Congratulations yet again to VWBoost member pattrick02 for his 2.0 TSI world record 1/4 mile run. Just recently he ran a 11.7@121 1/4 mile. He improved upon this with an 11.49 elapsed time. The vehicle is a MKVI Jetta GLI with a modified APR Stage 3+ kit. The 11.49 run makes for a new world record for the quickest 2.0 TSI motor. Congratulations to USP Motorsports on yet another record. These guys are raising the bar all over the place in the Volkswagen and Audi high performance scene. This MKIV Jetta GLI previously ran a 10.89 in the 1/4 mile and on its latest trip to the strip managed to improve this elapsed time to 10.63@139 miles per hour. Congratulations to VWBoost member pattrick02 who broke into the 11's in the 1/4 mile with his MKVI Volkswagen Jetta GLI. This car recently dyno'd 473 wheel horsepower with a modified APR Stage III kit and a fuel system upgraded by USP Motorsports including the LPFP (low pressure fuel pump and HPFP (high pressure fuel pump). Congratulations to APR on the first 11 second manual US Golf R. APR was able to hit 11's with ESP on and the stock all season tires. They also did not shift into 5th gear at the 1/4 mile mark hurting the trap a little bit. This is a development car so times will no doubt improve as it sees more time on the drag strip. Still, an 11.8@113 in the 1/4 mile on runflat tires with traction control on gives a pretty good idea as to what the car is capable of in street trim. ...Published on 11-06-2012 05:04 PM
Congratulations to VWBoost member pattrick02 whose MKVI Jetta GLI put down a very impressive 473 wheel horsepower on a dynojet dyno. This car has a modified APR Stage 3+ upgrade but really it is the fueling upgrades that make this amount of power possible. The HPFP (high pressure fuel pump) and LPFP (low pressure fuel pump) system were both modified by USP Motorsports in order to give the fuel system enough of a bump to support this amount of power. ...Published on 10-29-2012 10:53 AM
The first generation Volkswagen Phaeton was a failure. The idea of a high end Volkswagen luxury sedan is good on paper in the sense of increasing brand awareness and perception. But why buy a VW priced like an Audi A8 when you can just buy the Audi A8? And herein lies the problem with the Phaeton for Volkswagen. The VR6 motor is a tuners dream in the VW/Audi world. It can make big power especially in turobcharged form thanks to its very stout block thanks to the cylinder arrangement. The largest displacement version offered by the VW Group is the direct injected 3.6 24 valve but there is not too much power to squeeze out of it in stock form it appears even when a tuner as good as APR tackles it. ...Published on 10-23-2012 05:43 AM
Volkswagen teased the idea of a small coupe SUV at the Sao Paulo auto show in Brazil. The compact SUV is called the Taigan and features a 1.0 liter three-cylinder turbocharged motor with 110 horsepower and 129 pound-feet of torque mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. APR does amazing work in the VW and Audi world. They are showcasing it with an absolutely awesome build for the newly released VW Beetle which they will be adding all wheel drive to, a 6-speed manual transmission, and an APR Stage IV build to the 2.0 turbo four-cylinder for over 500 horsepower. It probably should not come as a surprise to anyone that companies are already modifying the brand new Golf VII. The Golf is traditionally a highly modified platform so a lot of various parts will be trickling out over the next year. Introducing the AWE-Tuning Track Edition / Switchpath catback exhaust system and Performance Downpipe for the MKVI Golf R. The catback system by itself will give about 8 peak horsepower and 6 pound-feed of peak torque. A rear section exhaust is not where one will really get big power gains and that is what the downpipe is for. Wow! Absolutely incredible results from APR with a DSG Golf R running a "Stage 4" APR tuning package. They did not state exactly what turbo is used only that it is a Garrett GTX series. This is a street legal car that was run in Australia at an Australian National Drag Racing Association certified drag strip. Here is the 2013 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible which VW decided to debut early before the Los Angeles Auto Show in late November. The 2013 Beetle convertible gets three engine options. A naturally aspirated 2.5 liter five-cylinder with 170 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque with a 6 speed automatic makes up the base model. Here is a very impressive 1/4 mile run from a MKVI Volkswagen Golf R. The car has the APR Stage 3 turbo upgrade kit along with the APR intercooler and APR turbo back RSC exhaust with cats and resonators deleted. The 6-speed car managed a very impressive 12.1@117 meaning in better weather it could likely break into the 11's. The timeslip and accompanying run video are below, very impressive. ...
