      The BMW X1 is already available for sale around the globe. It was supposed to be available in the largest market for the SUV, the United States, in the beginning of this year. Strong demand has the factory in Europe at full capacity. Unlike the X3, X5, and X6 built in the United States the X1 is built in Germany likely because it has far more in common with the chassis of the regular cars instead of the SUV's. If sales continue to be strong, it may even be delayed further than the fall.

        The X1 is based on the 3 series.

        I'm sure it shares parts from the X5 but mostly it is its platform I think since it is produced in the US factory.
