Canadian designer Anibal Automotive Design does some very, very over the top body kits and certainly does things different from others. Their body kit for the R8, Toxic, certainly is different from the other offerings on the market and may be considered way too over the top by some. This is one enthusiasts hoped would somehow get approved but unfortunately it was not meant to be. The Quattro Coupe was last reported on in August that it could possible see production in 2015 to honor 35 years of Quattro. Prior Design does great work with body kits for European and Exotic vehicles. Their widebodies in particular are very well done such as what they did with their Mercedes CL Black Edition widebody kit. Now Prior Design is set to tackle the Audi R8 with a widebody. On paper, this is not a mismatch. The 458 Italia has 562 horsepower from its 4.5 liter V8 powering the rear wheels through a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. The Audi R8 Spyder sports a 5.2 liter V10 with 525 horsepower. So why does the Audi get spanked so hard? Well, it's heavy at 3800 pounds meaning the 458 Italia is lighter by about 500 pounds which is significant. The upcoming 034 Motorsport B5 S4 single turbo kit is going to be a big deal for several reasons. First of all, it is priced at $3350 and secondly it is able to produce 570 horsepower to the wheels. It will definitely generate some buzz on a platform that is a great value. Here it is officially, the new 2013 Audi S3. Time to commend Audi for a job well done by putting in a new and more efficient 2.0 liter turbo four with 300 horses and 280 pound-feet of torque. The engine is all new and only shares the displacement of the previous model. 300 horsepower is achieved with 17.4 pounds of boost at a compression ratio of 9.3:1. This is simply one badass turbo Audi wagon which represents the kind of car AudiBoost is all about. This is a 2000 Audi B5 A4 with an S4 drivetrain and body pieces. It features a turbocharged VR6 motor that at 32 psi on E85 ran an impressive 10.9@137 which is hauling for a 3700 pound wagon. Congratulations to USP Motorsports who set a new personal quickest time with their run of 9.547@152.43 in the 1/4 mile with their VR6 swapped B5 S4. This was done at the NDIMA Imports versus Domestics drag racing event. The car is likely capable of more but is limited by certain class rules such as a minimum weight of 3200 pounds. This may be good news for everyone and a welcome wake up call to BMW. Audi has cut BMW's lead in auto sales considerably in 2012 with sales up 13% globally compared to the BMW's 7.8%. Audi's goal was to take the lead from BMW by 2020 but it seems they may be well ahead of schedule. The new A3 is helping Audi tremendously in Germany as well as China. Here is the new and absolutely stunning Audi RS5 convertible. The specs read exactly the same as the RS5 coupe which starts at $68,900 so expect a premium on top of that for the drop top. Not going to be cheap but it will come with a 450 horsepower 4.2 liter V8 with an 8500 RPM redline fed through a 7-Speed dual clutch gearbox. Insideline did a quick test video of the USA TT-RS. Our version only comes in 6-speed manual which is a bit of a bummer as the DSG would no doubt put up quicker numbers. Insideline managed to hit 0-60 in 4.3 seconds and the 1/4 mile came in a rather disappointing 13.0@105.6. The 2013 Audi RS5 is an absolutely gorgeous vehicle that we are thrilled Audi decided to bring to the USA. The old 4.2 liter FSI V8 was upgraded and now puts out 450 horses revving to a very impressive 8500 RPM. This power routed through a 7-speed dual clutch transmission is good enough to get it to a 12.5@110 in the 1/4 mile or in other words similar quickness to an E92 M3 DCT from a stop but likely still slightly slower from a roll on the top end. ...Published on 08-31-2012 01:11 PM
AMS Performance is starting to go hard at the R8 V10 market. Just a few days ago we posted about their Twin Turbo kit for the R8 V10 and now we have details on their naturally aspirated V10 tune. Gains are very healthy with 66 horses added at the wheels from just a tune only on 93 octane. APR just released their Audi TT transverse 2.0 TFSI K04 upgrade kit. Standard Audi TT's feature a 211 horsepower and 258 pound-feet output 2.0 TFSI motor. The Audi TTS however gets 265 horsepower from the same 2.0 four cylinder thanks to different tuning and turbo hardware. We are glad to see AMS paying more and more attention to the German performance car market. They currently are working on their twin turbo kit for the Audi R8 V10. This is currently a stock internal kit tuned on the stock ECU. Power is said to be around the 900 horsepower mark and although there is a video of the car on the dyno below no graphs were posted supporting this number. An absolutely incredible showing by the Audi DTM teams at this past weekends race in Zandvoort which is in the Netherlands. Audi passed BMW by quite a bit who was second in the manufacturer standings following their victory at the Nurburgring. Audi picked up a whopping 68 points with this past race compared to 19 for Mercedes-Benz and 14 for BMW. We are hoping this is one rumor that comes true. The last time we discussed the awesome Quattro Concept was with an article that stated production might happen in 2013. That production outlook is now strengthened thanks to an AutoBild report that this model would be a 35th anniversary gift for Quattro. Here is another comparison with Audi coming out on top over BMW but it is from Car and Driver yet again. Previously, Car and Driver picked the Audi S6 over the new F10 M5 and even the E55 AMG despite a huge gap in horsepower. Well, this time the cars are more evenly matched but Audi still triumphs. Why? This is just the beginning of this project but it got our attention. MRC Tuning is swapping the B7 RS4 4.2 direct injected V8 into a B5 shell. The engine will fit but it sure will be tight in the bay. A K24 turbo was posted in the engine bay next to the motor although they plan to go to something much larger. Audi for some reason decided to replace its A4 Avant with the Audi Allroad which is also based on the A4. The Allroad was previously based on the A6. The A4 Avant was lower to the ground and more of a street car. The Allroad is supposed to have some offroad capability which sort of bridges the gap between wagon and SUV. Basically, this is a raised A4 Wagon with plates under the body to protect it when offroading and softer suspension. ...
