Very nice comparison here from Motorweek who took a B8 S4 sedan with the supercharged 3.0 TFSI V6 and dual clutch transmission versus the new B8 S5 that Audi updated with the 3.0 TFSI supercharged V6 as well. The difference here being that the B8 S5 is manua versus the dual clutch B8 S4. So what were their results with the two cars? ...Published on 10-29-2012 10:30 AM
Well this is out of left-field, what's going on Audi? Shocking considering how much time Audi has spent blowing smoke up our rear ends regarding the R8 E-Tron. In late June of this year Audi spent a bunch of time touting how their E-Tron was the fastest "production" electric car to lap the Nurburgring. It was certainly an impressive achievement but now the claim for a production electric can no longer be made. ...Published on 10-28-2012 12:50 PM
The Alpina B7 simply has to be used in a comparison with the Audi S8 since the BMW lineup has a major gap with no M7. Why no M7 when there are M SUV's? No explanation, the old argument about a heavy and low revving M car not fitting the brand strategy can no longer be used. So in comes Alpina to fill a niche with their B7 based on the 750i who gives the N63 V8 upgraded turbos and a new tune. ...Published on 10-25-2012 11:07 AM
The current Audi RS3 uses a 2.5 TFSI turbo inline-5 cylinder motor with 340 horsepower which also is used in the TT-RS. A very capable motor capable of over 500 wheel horsepower in tuned form. The new Audi S3 puts out 300 horsepower from 2.0 TFSI motor so one would expect the new Audi RS3 to raise the bar considerably over the previous generation car. ...Published on 10-24-2012 07:21 PM
Talk about a monster, USP Motorsports B5 S4 with a VR6 swapped in and turbocharged put down 915 horsepower to all four wheels on a dynojet. This is the same car that went 9.5@152 in the 1/4 mile although it would seem that was hit with less power than what it is not putting down as shown in dyno the video below. This car is absolutely absurd and it is quite simply badass that they take it out on the street with this much power and with a parachute mounted on the back. ...Published on 10-23-2012 07:50 AM
The Audi S8 with its 520 horsepower 4.0 TFSI direct injected twin turbo V8 is proving to be quite a beast. The car is not a lightweight by any means with a curb weight of 4619 pounds yet it manages 0-60 in 3.5 seconds. The 1/4 mile sprint is accomplished in 11.8 seconds with a trap speed of 118.3 miles per hour. Very impressive and done with an 8-speed automatic transmission. ...Published on 10-20-2012 09:00 PM
The Audi TT is a very nice design but it tends to have the dreaded reputation for performance enthusiasts of a chick car. Now, nothing could be further from the truth as cars like the TT-RS prove not the only can the TT look good but it can back those looks up with some serious performance. Especially when the car can put out 600 horsepower. ...Published on 10-18-2012 01:50 AM
This race took place at a half mile shootout from a stop that was hosted in Georgia last month. The Audi TT is running an APR K04 turbo upgrade and tune on the 2.0 four cylinder motor. The 135i has a tune, bolt on's, and meth injection although it is not stated what tune the 135i is running. Regardless, the Audi TT is able to hold off the 135i through the 1/2 mile. ...Published on 10-12-2012 07:59 PM
When the E92 M3 came out it was a stronger car than the B7 Audi RS4. Lighter, faster, stronger. Well, Audi has had plenty of time since then to respond and the response is the B8 RS5. Unfortunately, the old 4.2 FSI even with a few tweaks and combined with a dual clutch transmission still isn't quite enough to best the now 4+ year old E92 M3. ...Published on 10-11-2012 07:17 PM
The 4.2 liter FSI V8 is a great motor but not exactly a tuning powerhouse platform. Unfortunately, as the motor is fairly highly stressed in stock form and routing power to all four wheels without going forced induction on the motor there is not much to gain. On 93 octane APR takes the car from 352 horsepower at all four wheels to 361 horses at all four wheels for a gain of only 9 horsepower at the wheels. ...Published on 10-10-2012 01:42 AM
Canadian designer Anibal Automotive Design does some very, very over the top body kits and certainly does things different from others. Their body kit for the R8, Toxic, certainly is different from the other offerings on the market and may be considered way too over the top by some. This kit completely transforms the car and certainly will get a ton of attention if that is what someone is seeking. ...Published on 10-04-2012 02:57 AM
This is one enthusiasts hoped would somehow get approved but unfortunately it was not meant to be. The Quattro Coupe was last reported on in August that it could possible see production in 2015 to honor 35 years of Quattro. This news was greeted warmly by Audi enthusiasts and performance enthusiasts alike as a lightweight (sub 3000 pound) all wheel drive 2-seater with 380 horsepower from an inline-5 turbo is incredibly appealing. ...Published on 09-27-2012 12:54 PM
Prior Design does great work with body kits for European and Exotic vehicles. Their widebodies in particular are very well done such as what they did with their Mercedes CL Black Edition widebody kit. Now Prior Design is set to tackle the Audi R8 with a widebody. These are just renderings but from what they have displayed so far the final product does not differ much from the concept. ...Published on 09-26-2012 11:02 AM
On paper, this is not a mismatch. The 458 Italia has 562 horsepower from its 4.5 liter V8 powering the rear wheels through a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. The Audi R8 Spyder sports a 5.2 liter V10 with 525 horsepower. So why does the Audi get spanked so hard? Well, it's heavy at 3800 pounds meaning the 458 Italia is lighter by about 500 pounds which is significant. It also is sending power to all four wheels whereas the Italia is going to the rear wheels making for less drivetrain loss. ...Published on 09-25-2012 10:19 PM
The upcoming 034 Motorsport B5 S4 single turbo kit is going to be a big deal for several reasons. First of all, it is priced at $3350 and secondly it is able to produce 570 horsepower to the wheels. It will definitely generate some buzz on a platform that is a great value. With that wheel horsepower potential the expectation of performance is far greater than the 1/4 mile in 11.8@118 however. ...Published on 09-23-2012 12:15 PM
Here it is officially, the new 2013 Audi S3. Time to commend Audi for a job well done by putting in a new and more efficient 2.0 liter turbo four with 300 horses and 280 pound-feet of torque. The engine is all new and only shares the displacement of the previous model. 300 horsepower is achieved with 17.4 pounds of boost at a compression ratio of 9.3:1. The main competition of the BMW N20 achieves 241 rated horsepower at a 10.0:1 compression ratio at 18.9 psi of boost. ...Published on 09-19-2012 02:48 AM
This is simply one badass turbo Audi wagon which represents the kind of car AudiBoost is all about. This is a 2000 Audi B5 A4 with an S4 drivetrain and body pieces. It features a turbocharged VR6 motor that at 32 psi on E85 ran an impressive 10.9@137 which is hauling for a 3700 pound wagon. The Precision billey 6766 turbo is good for 794 horsepower to all four wheels at only 32 psi and can be pushed into the low 40 psi range if necessary. ...Published on 09-18-2012 01:21 AM
Congratulations to USP Motorsports who set a new personal quickest time with their run of 9.547@152.43 in the 1/4 mile with their VR6 swapped B5 S4. This was done at the NDIMA Imports versus Domestics drag racing event. The car is likely capable of more but is limited by certain class rules such as a minimum weight of 3200 pounds. Regardless, running mid 9's is incredibly impressive and there is something very awesome about a B5 with parachute. ...Published on 09-14-2012 11:20 PM
This may be good news for everyone and a welcome wake up call to BMW. Audi has cut BMW's lead in auto sales considerably in 2012 with sales up 13% globally compared to the BMW's 7.8%. Audi's goal was to take the lead from BMW by 2020 but it seems they may be well ahead of schedule. The new A3 is helping Audi tremendously in Germany as well as China. BMW simply is not capitalizing in China the way Audi is at the moment. ...Published on 09-06-2012 03:49 PM
Here is the new and absolutely stunning Audi RS5 convertible. The specs read exactly the same as the RS5 coupe which starts at $68,900 so expect a premium on top of that for the drop top. Not going to be cheap but it will come with a 450 horsepower 4.2 liter V8 with an 8500 RPM redline fed through a 7-Speed dual clutch gearbox. The all wheel drive is capable of distributing the power 40:60 front to rear. ...
