We had high hopes Audi would do an RS version of the Q3 and with this concept it seems there is a chance of it becoming reality. The Q3 is the perfect performance SUV platform for several reasons the most obvious of which is its comparatively low curb weight. In the 3500 pound range this would literally run circles around the 5300 pound X5 M and ML63 AMG. The engine is the same potent 2.5 liter inline-5 out of the TT-RS with 360 horsepower. We have already seen that motor putting out over 500 horsepower to the wheels with some tuning work. ...Published on 04-12-2012 12:24 AM
It looks like Audi will be announcing its acquisition of Ducati shortly. AMG was reported to be in the mix but either their interest was overblown or they never had any intention of purchasing Ducati. Regardless, Reuters reports the acquisition may be announced next week as inside sources have revealed that the deal was indeed completed. No information on the purchased price released yet. This means that now Audi will have motorcycle division to compete with BMW Motorrad heating up the competition considerably. ...Published on 04-11-2012 01:30 AM
The all electric Audi R8 E-Tron is on the way but the drivetrain poses a problem in the sound department. The electric powertrain is simply too quiet and that poses a problem for pedestrians. So, Audi is having "sound engineers" compose engine sounds. Yes, they are composing gasoline engine sounds for the car. At least in the E-Tron R8 it is understandable due to being all electric so is better than what BMW did with the new M5. This synthetic engine sound trend is very disturbing however. ...Published on 04-09-2012 10:46 PM
GIAC has released their software for USA Audi TT-RS vehicles. Depending on the octane gains range from 30 horsepower at the wheels on 91 octane up to 69 horses at all four wheels on race gas. Maps suited to your octane are available and can be switched using a hand held flash loader. The vehicle shown in the dyno graph below is a 6 speed manual as all USA TT-RS' are. In addition to the horsepower gains throttle maps are changed, the low speed torque limiter is removed, and the speed limiter is removed. Stage II software from GIAC is coming up next. ...Published on 04-05-2012 11:31 PM
With rapper Tyga sporting an R8 and now Lady Gaga we have to wonder if the R8 is becoming far too mainstream. The main difference though between Gaga's R8 and Tyga's is that Lady Gaga had the balls to get the V10. Let that comment sink in. This is one of those times where we appreciate stick only cars that stay out of celebrities hands like the Porsche GT3 or Porsche GT2. You won't be seeing a rapper or Britney Spears driving one of those any time soon as you actually have to drive the car rather than be driven. ...Published on 03-28-2012 02:05 AM
Audi has enjoyed sales to the Chinese government for some time now being the preferred brand. Audi and the Chinese government have become so ubiquitous that many younger people have started avoiding the Audi brand in China as it somewhat represents the old and stodgy. New regulations propose that government agencies be forced to buy only Chinese cars to help the struggling Chinese domestic auto industry. ...Published on 03-22-2012 06:18 AM
It isn't necessarily the Gold wrap that is bad here. Some cars have pulled off gold wraps quite well like this X5M. This car doesn't do it as well though. Tyga considers himself "creative" but we've seen gold wraps before, a while ago, so it isn't quite as creative as he seems to be telling people it is. The Cashmere interior may be something nobody is doing with a Gold wrap but that is likely for a reason. He ties the black rims in well, we'll give him that. ...Published on 03-21-2012 11:14 PM
Now, we are not sure if this Jeep is actually putting out 1000 horses but that is the claim being made. With the way it rips this R8 V10, itself a very fast car, and holds it off through the mile it clearly is making a lot of power. It also traps higher at 167.7 MPH versus the 163.78 for the R8 V10. The R8 was asleep at the light with a poor reaction time and just does not have the power to run this Jeep down through the mile especially when the Jeep is pulling harder despite its comparatively poor aerodynamics and weight. A very impressive SUV. ...Published on 03-20-2012 12:36 AM
The Audi R18's are picking up where they left off last year winning just about wherever they race. This is the first 1-2 victory for Audi at Sebring since 2005. The winning R18 did so comfortably winning by four laps. Audi may have won 1-2-3 if it was not for gearbox problems in the number 1 R18. The new E-Tron Quattro and Ultra R18's did not participate in this race as they will make their racing debut at Spa (Belgium) on May 5. ...Published on 03-13-2012 02:13 AM
Last month we reported that the Mercedes AMG brand was a likely buyer for Italian motorcycle produce Ducati. AMG is a logical choice as they would like to have competition for BMW Motorrad. In an interesting twist, Audi is entering the Ducati sweestakes. Why Audi and not VW? Well, technically the brand would be under the VW halo but Audi has a motorcycle history. Also, clearly Audi wants to compete with BMW's bikes as well. Is this simply a move to drive the price up beyond what AMG is willing to pay for it? The price is now rumored to be over the billion dollar range. We'll see who wins or blinks first. ...Published on 03-10-2012 11:23 PM
We really like the things APR does. One thing we do not like about them though is the dyno's that they post which show crank figures. Would it really kill them to show us the numbers at the wheels as it should be? Regardless, on 93 octane fuel their baseline horsepower number for the TT-RS is 375 and after the tune on the same fuel the number is 414. Torque figures are boosted from 365 to 430. This tune is available for all TT-RS models, North American cars need to send their ECU in. ...Published on 03-09-2012 06:29 PM
Supersprint makes a quality product for a variety of German vehicles. It does not come cheap but we are glad they make these parts or else we would not have options such as this. The photos below are from the development manifolds and are not the final version. What we want to see is pricing information as well as a dyno to show the gains. Looking at the factory part versus what Supersprint is doing, it looks like there is room to improve upon the factory design considerably. We will update you when we get more information.

The new A3 was just revealed and it is a great, albeit cautious/repetitive, design. Audi CEO Rupert Stadler revealed in Geneva that a plug-in hybrid is definitely in the cards for the new A3. Well, we know Europe will get it. What about the USA? Audi of America President Johan de Nysschen when asked about it coming to the USA replied, "it would be our intention to bring the full range of technologies." Ok, that is fine with us and we see the appeal of such a model. Just please do not ditch the next generation RS3 in lieu of producing a hybrid. ...Published on 03-06-2012 02:02 AM
Well after a ton of teasers and leaks we finally have the real deal, the new next generation 2013 Audi A3. The car is taking on styling cues from all the other models that have received updated headlights in the Audi lineup. Frankly, this headlight style being on the refreshed A4 and A5 makes all these Audi models blur together a bit too much. Expect a 2.0T and a DSG when the car goes on sale in the USA late this year. Fingers crossed that we get a new RS3 and with the pressure Mercedes is applying in the segment, chances look good. ...Published on 03-02-2012 10:01 PM
So, you should all know that Audi will be racing two hybrid diesel cars in Le Mans this year. Definitely cool to see hybrid technology taken to the highest level of endurance racing but we are concerned if these cars are up to rigors of a 24 hour race it will hurt Audi's chances of repeating. Regardless, these cars are packed with technology. They are powered at all four wheels with one axle getting grunt from the electric motor (100 horsepower) and the other from the diesel motor (510 horsepower). ...Published on 02-25-2012 07:32 PM
The TT-RS is a very quick little car, especially from a stop where its launch control with DSG is allowed to shine. The TT-RS in this video below is said to be stock and the M3 is said to be modded although we do not know what mods it has. It does not have enough horsepower however to overcome the disadvantage on the launch to the TT-RS though it does start to reel it in up top. The M3 also sounds like it is a manual during the gear changes which is a bit of a penalty. Goes to how how effective a dual clutch with all wheel drive is from a stop. Too bad Audi did not offer this gearbox in the USA. ...Published on 02-21-2012 07:25 PM
Here is the first graph we have seen of a stock internal Heffners twin turbo R8 5.2. EPL (European Performance Labs) tuned the car as Heffners Performance was not able to crack the stock ECU. The high 600's on stock internals is a bit underwhelming although that curve is gorgeous. Considering where Gallardo's are with twin turbo setups the R8 5.2 V10 is lagging a bit behind due to the difficulty in tuning them it seems. We hope to see built motor numbers soon.

The RS5 is coming soon, very soon, as in this Spring to the United States. In preparation for its arrival Audi released this video teaser. It shows the RS5 going through the desert and looking gorgeous doing it. As a reminder, the RS5 will have 450 horsepower from a 4.2 liter high revving direct injected V8 mated to a DSG (dual clutch) gearbox. No pricing yet (likely $80k+) and production will be very limited so do not expect to see these everywhere. Thanks for bringing it to the USA Audi! ...Published on 02-16-2012 02:16 AM
All the big reveals seem to be taking place on the internet before the Geneva show. We were excited to get a rendering of this car yesterday based on the production bumper pieces only for the real thing to be released a few hours later. The final product is simply gorgeous and typical Audi quality inside and out. A 450 horsepower 8250 rpm 4.2 liter V8 mated to a dual clutch DSG gearbox makes for one seriously badass wagon. We will not be getting it in the USA but we will get the RS5 which is a fine consolation prize. ...Published on 02-15-2012 01:04 AM
The B8 Audi RS4 is coming just not to the United States. It will basically share the Audi RS5 drivetrain so that means a 4.2 liter V8 with 450 horsepower and DSG (dual clutch transmission). Sibal based his rendering on bumper pieces that were leaked out. The pieces seem to in fact be genuine which gives us an idea of the styling that will be employed in the B8 RS4. How these pictures of finished bumper pieces got out on a car that is not out yet is anyone's guess. ...
