      Renntech is offering a throttle body upgrade for the M156 AMG motors. The throttle body is 82mm and offers an increase in flow of 22% over the standard throttle body. The performance increase is a claimed +11 hp and +8 lb-ft of torque. The upgrade is completely bolt-on but it is priced at an eye popping $3,945. Dinan pricing isn't exactly cheap but they sell 10 throttle bodies for the S85 V10 for less money than this. Contact Renntech if interested.

        Nothing against RENNtech however these TBs are 100% unecessary. The stock TBs are dual 74mm and flow over 1400cfm at redline. On it's best day a M156 at 7000rpm will ingest maybe 700cfm, so the TBs are already large enough as delivered from the factory. Additionally there are other choke points in the M156 that can be addressed for the same $ that legitimately yield significant gains.

        Would you explain to me why the hell they are so expensive?

        They are definitely not worth it but why couldn't someone just bore out the stock throttle bodies and save themselves some coin? They won't hit 82mm but it would be far more cost effective.

        No sir I cannot. Kleemann asks about the same price $4495 IIRC for larger TBs as well...

        Another problem I see with larger TBs is that the TB electronics aren't recalibrated for the extra flow. Meaning the car will initially run leaner and therefore make a bit more power but in time the ECU will add more fuel and the gains (if there are any) would be lost.

        So far I've yet to see any objective data (dyno, vbox, track) showing me these work.

        Well, I buy the claim on the figures and I think the ECU is sophisticated enough to adjust. Plus, if it is an issue a tune can be done to take them into account. The difference in size and flow does seem to be substantial enough to warrant something, although it certainly is not cost effective and there are better areas to find power.

        ECU is basing airflow off tables that are no longer relevant, so to me it's a waste. Again though objectively speaking no gains have ever been shown, and the TBs are not the choke point on the inlet side of the motor.

        Ya, I do not understand why there is no proof of the gains. At least for this cost something should be shown to go along with it. I don't give $4k away just based on good faith.

        From what I've seen there are at least 5 people running these or the Kleemann TBs for M156s and not one person has posted any sort of objective result. All referred to their but dyno for results...

        Does not make any sense to me. Way too much money to playing around with butt dyno type stuff. I don't know, $4k for this is just way too much. I just don't have that kind of money to burn for ~10 or less hp.

        I believe Rick (rarfinancial) has the Kleemann TB on his CLS63. He did say he saw some gains on the dyno.... I want to say 13 whp but not 100% sure. Anyways, I will not argue the high cost because I do believe they are expensive, but to some people they may very well not be very expensive at all. What I do know for sure is that RENNtech is very extremely conservative with their claims. If they say a product will make 10 hp, then I'm confident it will.

        Maybe someday someone will do an objective test, if there are dynos why don't people post them?

        That's what I'm counting on Click here to enlarge It would be nice to see some solid gains like the RENNtech airbox provides, but so far no data.

        I don't understand that, why make claims about the dyno and then not post it if it really exists?

        I'm not super familiar with Rick but have read some of his posts and he tends to make a lot of claims.

        Except for a couple of minor exceptions, RENNtech usually never posts dynos or post on public forums.... they will provide the customer with the info if he/she asks but other than that, they don't get too involved. They're also never too aggressive with their products and focus more on reliability and consistency.

        I understand Renntech's position but I am specifically referring to Rick and his own dyno.
