      We have heard this rumor before and BMW has yet to confirm it. However, BMWcoop is reporting that sources inside BMW claim the V6 twin turbo is a go. Why would BMW abandon the I6 after so long? Why the change that goes against all the talk of the N55 being the base for the next-gen M3? Why would BMW create a new motor architecture when they have set the precedent of using the same architecture now across multiple models? We don't know, it does not make any sense. 440 hp is also way, way too low. There are many conflicting reports, take it with a grain of salt until BMW refutes it (or confirms it).

        I think we all going through a period of stage fright. It reminds me of the time when the rumour was spread that the new M5 was not going to be a straight six but a V8. The shock and horror in consumers eyes was similar to the "whats next" effect we getting now. Whatever engine the new M3 gets and no one can say guaranteed its the V6 will be worthy enough to be in a M car. In three years time BMW will not have a single naturally aspirated motor in its range, has anyone realized that? By using the V6 they can push the engine further back in the engine bay which does magic to the handling dynamics of the car. Make more with less seems to be the new BMW moto.

        BMW needs something else on top of M. Like what Black Series is to AMG.

        Would be nice but Mercedes is killing with the Black Series right now. BMW doesn't have anything to compete with them.

        I dont know why is everyone so upset. BMW changed to a V8 for the e92 M3. The I6 has been gone for a while now...

        There is no problem with a TT V6. The GTR is TT V6 and it rapes

        Because an I6 is traditionally BMW. If they do a 6 cylinder it should be an I6. They stayed away from the V6 for a reason.

        What is BMW going to do with their racing programs if the M3 goes to a FI V6? For example what is ALMS regulations when it comes to GT2? There isn't any manufacturers running FI in GT2.

        They can't make a limited model like they did with the E46 GTR V8. The rules do not permit it, road car must have 100 units and 1,000 engines produced.

        A very good question, we don't know. They might just drop it like they did back in 2002 and how they left F1.

        My thoughts exactly.

        I think them announcing they are joining DTM, was to save face in the future when they leave Le Mans racing.

        It just seems like a whole lot more work to race FI in the GT2 class, most likely why no one is doing it. I just don't see BMW doing it in the future.

        They will either drop out of Le Mans racing..... Or build a 100 unit F30 M3 w/ the S65...... Or build a Z4 M coupe with the S65 and go racing with that.

        My guess is they go DTM racing and drop out of endurance racing.

        Yeah, but I was talking more of road car version.

        It seems like they should use the S65 in more than one car, like the S54.

        Maybe a swan song for the S65, in the late E9x M3 years. Stuff it in a new Z4M Coupe, produce it for a couple years before the new M3 comes. Then they can continue to race in Le Mans (since like you said they already have the race car).

        Totally agree, a new Z4 M with the S65 would be.... it would awesome. Make it a coupe like the Black Series SL to lighten it and make a hardcore car for once. BMW has turned into a bunch of hippie pussies though.

        I'm all for this... but they will likely just up the boost on the N54 or N55 and slap an M badge on it charging $15k more for the honor.
