      An ESS supercharged E39 M5 owner took his car to specialty Z to get a dyno and the results were not exactly what one would expect. Hitting 7.3 psi of boost with DIN correction the car only puts up 472 whp through an aftermarket exhaust. ESS portrays the car as over 500 whp on 6 psi through the stock exhaust. This is now a repeat pattern of the ESS S62 supercharger not living up to the claimed numbers by over 30 whp even with more boost than claimed.

      When looking at the graph, the car is dangerously lean toward redline where max boost hits. The A/F ratio definitely needs to be cleaned up and we would advise the owner to get a new tune.

        Agreed. It seems most M5 owners already think their cars are plenty fast, so the ESS kit is really only for a select few. It is a shame that there really is no "cheap" power adder to this car. The Dinan S2 package is $30k and is way way over-rated at 470bhp, makes the ESS kit seem like a steal.
        Even though the ESS kit doesn't hit the advertised figures it definitely is without a doubt the best value option for increasing the HP of the motor.

        Dinan could charge that price when there was no competition. Who would opt for a Dinan S2 or even S3 now?

        At the end of the day the ESS kit isn't bad. AA at 1 point had a twin c30 kit they made for a e39 M5 customer. Not sure what kind of power it made.

        The difference was when Dinan had the deal with BMW to be able to modify the cars and they kept the BMW warranty.I do not know if that is still the deal or not with the new kits on the new cars.
        I knew the second I put the 8PSI kit on my E39 the BMW warranty for the car was out the window.Legal to drive in 49 states though...

        The twin rotrex AA car is out there somewhere.The idea was brought across the pond to the USA.The first twin rotrex system was done in Sweden,I believe....The CA kit has been around awhile as well....

        Not any longer, Dinan supplements their own warranty and BMW warranty is void.

        At least they have the confidence in their kits to stand behind them.I am not sure what the warranty situation is with ESS.
        I had their kit installed by these pinheads in New York,AI Industries.I had problems with the install right out of the box.Hans at ESS walked me through the steps to get the kit correct.....

        Hans Kirkerod is one of the head engineers or one of the owners.He and Asbjorn were the first contacts I ever had with ESS.This was before they had a USA office....

        the M5 ESS kit is a great piece. Runs flawless if installed correctly.

        That is the issue with basically all their kits, the dyno games.
