      Rumor has it Mercedes is preparing to go after the BMW M3 Coupe with a coupe of their own. The C class coupe would share the drivetrain from the C63 sedan which would mean it would get the same 6.2 liter V8. If Mercedes shoved their new twin turbo V8 in this thing, they would instantly dominate the landscape but most likely be stepping on the toes of their more expensive AMG models which is why they won't do it.

      This car is obviously aimed at the M3 and will clearly outmuscle it along with the RS5 which doesn't really have much muscle. The CTS-V coupe clearly would also be one of the targets. The car will not have a dual clutch transmission unfortunately which is a bit of set back. Note, much of this information comes from Autocar so don't take this as confirmation of a specs just yet, things may change.

        Why wouldn't they put in the new 5.5L tt V8? They have been using the same powerplant up and down the AMG line for a while now.

        They don't always use the same powerplant.

        SLK55 and CLK55 are examples of that. If they give the C class the same motor the big boys are getting it will eat them alive in performance.

        They would have to detune it like the current C63 or do something to maintain hierarchy. In the case of the E55 they gave it a lower hp rating than the CL and S to make it appear it had less power on paper.

        I see them putting the turbo in eventually. Even though these aren't Prius's, the turbos do get better gas mileage. I think gas mileage is a big reason all these manufacturers are moving towards tubos to make big HP.

        If the next M3 has a TT 6-cylinder, I won't be. The C-class AMG will be the big boy on the block, with the TTV8. Might be time to move up to a M5.

        I would agree, if Merc sticks a TT-V8 in this I don't want some tiny 6 cylinder, I want the big, bad V8 TT.

        Hmmm, I don't think so. CLK is E platform, this would be C.

        Definitely some overlap though.

        there is no E Class coupe AMG to give way to this C63 Coupe.

        I totally expect the M157 TT V8 is going to end up in all of the AMG cars (except the V12 ones obviously) within the next 5 years. Including the C class. They'll de tune it by running less boost or something, and it will be easy to fix that.

        If any TT V8 makes it's way into the C-class it will be the 4.6L variant. They are only running 1 bar of boost to make 469HP and (I found out 2 days ago) these cars are Tunable Click here to enlarge Will confirm on the 5.5 shortly but the 4.6s are good to go, for us anyway.

        CLK is based on the C platform, not the E. w209 CLK was based on the w203 C platform, for example.

        Not anymore. Their mid range coupe is an E. There are no plans to do a CLK this generation.

        I didn't say anything about the E Coupe. Neither did the post I was replying to.

        In any event, even the current "E Coupe" (c207) is based on the C Class platform (w204), regardless of how MB chose to market it.
