      Very, very nice results shown here by Unitronic who worked on this MKVI GTI that was able to put down a very impressive 470 wheel horsepower in STD correction on a dynojet. This was done with 28 psi of boost using a PTE 5530 turbocharger with pump gas and water/meth injection. Obviously a fuel system upgrade was necessary to make this possible the Unitronic TSI High Output fuel system plays an important part in supporting the output.

        Nice!

        something VERY important to note. This was running 70/30 meth, about 660ml/m. However this tune is NOT meth dependent nor does it take any advantage of the meth system. This is just a future "OTS" 93oct tune.

        Unfortunately in the TSI VAG world we don't have any good tuning options for Meth, unless we go with a "eurodyne maestro" but there really isn't anyone notable tuning them.

        everyone flash tunes. I guess unitronic would do a custom tune for meth but it's going to be $$.

        APR is heavily against tuning for meth and will not even consider it.

        Basically if you want to run a tune that takes advantage of meth you have to run a race gas tune and you're going to see some knock/timing pull because the tune is set up as if you're running 100+oct (obviously) and unless you're hitting your boost thresholds for meth you're still running 93oct on it.

        Though I believe one guy had a stage 3+ turbo dyno with meth and without meth on the same tune, showed ~20-25whp gain using meth without even tuning for it.

        Nope. no one is tuning for that either. For a few reasons: the bosch ECU in the VAG cars are pretty complex, so there would need to be a great demand for tuners to even get into it for e85 tuning. Plus the stock fuel system isn't that great, tops out around 370whp or so with meth before you need injectors. Unlike the FSI engines, our fuel system is also not rated for e85

        It is hard to create an OTS E85 file due to the varying ethanol contents by region. We like our files to be universally compatible to ensure drivability, and I feel that this would be hard to do with ethanol.
        We also have a closed loop lambda system so given AFR targets and amount of fuel that e85 needs to flow, you're looking at next to no gains on a 93oct file. On a race file, well you're going to have to put a lot of time into messing with e85 mixes to figure out what's going to give you power without maxing trims or pulling too much timing.

        i love this car, but it sucks being in a mod scene where one vendor rules all. and there is more or less no differentiation between the slew of flash tunes

        The market in the GTI for doing that stuff is so limited. There are literally only a handful of people willing to do that. I can probably name them all too LOL. Nobody wants to tune it exclusivly etc.

        Why aren't there more tuning options? These are popular motors. It makes no sense to me. There should be E85 and meth maps all over.

        The tuners are just so behind. We have Unitronic, Revo, GIAC and APR. all their tunes are more or less the same, maybe one boost slightly more than the other. But no one really getting into actual meth tuning or e85 tuning. Just 91, 93, 100octanes.

        A lot more of the "aggressive" tuners or people tuning for BT, e85, meth etc are all still working on the FSI.

        Let's not even get started about talking about how expensive a tune is when they are not on sale. I'm talking $599 base flash from APR for which ever octane you want. Then you have to pay more for stock, 91, 93, 100, Valet, etc.

        Get's even better you didn't want to spend $2800 for their k04 kit so you purchased a hardware kit from CTS Turbo or AWE Tuning for $1800? Already have an APR Stage 1/2 tune? Guess what, have fun paying an additional $299 for a k04 tune.

        Know how people complain about BMW tax in the N54 world? VW Tax is ridiculous. Like I mentioned in a VTT thread, Stage 3 gt28r is only $700 more than a GT28R kit from APR. To think you're getting an extra turbo, piping, downpipes (none with APR kits), etc for that $700 difference. Granted with APR you get a tune too, but still...
        You think with the popularity of the TSI engine, the affordable price (2 door MT base GTI is low 20s brand new) and how huge the mod scene of the VAG world is, the after market would be huge. But nope. small, limited, expensive.

        but at least out of the box this car is a lot of fun and the DSG transmission is great. I really can't complain too much because i'm not going to be dropping the coin to do a Big turbo build.

        the entire thing is confusing. You can look up the EA113 and EA888 engine families on wikipedia, you'll probably confuse yourself more.

        Speaking strictly for VW
        The FSI (Technically T-fsi, the fsi was a NA engine in the EA113 family that they turbocharged for the GTI) comes in the mk5 GTI/Jetta GLI for model years 2003-2008.5 It also comes in the MK6 Golf-R and mk6 GTI-35 Edition.

        Beginning March 2008 the production of the EA888 engine family started and went into the 2008.5+ mk5 GTIs. It also goes in the Mk6 GTI and mk6 Jetta GLI.

        They should really adopt an easy naming scheme like Mercedes or BMW.
