BMW's planned products for the 2014 model year in the USA - F22 2-Series (220i, 228i, M235i), diesel wagon, and new F15 X5

This is going to be a big year for BMW in the USA as many models are added and some are replaced. The current X5 will be getting replaced by its next generation F15 sibling as production will start in August. This was well known but another piece of exciting news is that an all new car will be available for sale as a 2014 model and that will be the F22 2-Series. This car is based on the F20 1-Series platform that is not available for sale in the USA due to the perceived notion that we Americans hate hatchbacks.


Expect the 2-Series to come as a 220i and 228i both sharing the N20 turbo four-cylinder motor in different states of tune as the F30 3-Series does now. The exciting bit of news though is that the 2-Series will get an M235i variant. Not a dedicated "M" car so to speak but a sporty version similar to the F20 M135i. This means a 320 horsepower N55 turbo inline-6 motor and likely a 6-speed manual as well as automatic option.

In other news a diesel wagon will be available by the end of the year as BMW will bringing its 2.0 liter turbo diesel four-cylinder to the USA. Expect this motor to make its way into a bunch of cars including the X1.
