Volkswagen's World Rally Championship hopes are off to a good start with a second place finish at the Monte Carlo Rally.
The Polo R had a successful debut and appears to be a strong challenger. The 17 months of testing and development as well as the rather large monetary investment certainly are paying off. French automobile maker Citroën was able to get the victory over VW however at Monte Carlo with Sebastian Loeb driving.
VW Motorsport Boss Jost Capito was very happy with the team, "“Second place in the first rally of the new Polo R WRC is more than we could have expected. The Rally Monte Carlo is the most complex event in the calendar and the team has here shown that they are ready for the World Rally Championship."
Volkswagen had two cars in the rally but the other was forced to retire due an earlier crash. The next race is on February 7th which will take place in Sweden.
