What does it take to produce an R8? Audi shows how much testing they put into the R8 facelift

The R8 received an update recently with minor styling changes as well as mechanical changes the most important of which is the S-Tronic dual clutch transmission replacing the R-Tronic sequential manual gearbox. What you may not realize is just how much testing Audi and Quattro GmbH puts into the R8. Literally thousands upon thousands of hours of testing in harsh conditions namely on the Nurburgring which Audi feels is the toughest test for a street car.


In addition to the track testing there are of course numerous tests at the factory on the bench, dyno, in simulations, etc., under the harshest of conditions. Audi takes tremendous pride in their durability testing much of which comes from the R8 LMS racing program. There are no harsher conditions than full on racing especially 24 Hour endurance races such as the 24 Hours of the Nurburgring with Audi won this past year.
