• Official: The new Porsche 991 Generation GT3 Cup Car is here - Pictures and video

      After teasing us for a bit Porsche has finally revealed the new Porsche 991 GT3 Cup Car. It is based on the upcoming 991 GT3 and features a 3.8 liter flat-6 putting out an eye-opening 460 horsepower. This is a bump of 10 horsepower on the previous generation cup car. Rear aerodynamics are adjustable with the rear wing and the front features a splitter and dive planes to generate downforce. Tires are wider in front and back and increase of 2 cm and 1 cm respectively.

      Timo Bernhard, Porsche Works Driver, stated, “The new 911 GT3 Cup is much easier to drive at the limit. The car is excellently balanced. The new axle geometry is enormously positive for the handling. Apart from that the new Cup 911 is great fun to drive."

        One thing that will be interesting to see on the street car is whether they go with the DFI motor, or stay with the venerable Mezger engine as they have with the Cup car.

        I think if the street car gets "just" the DFI motor, it hurts the GT3 image and makes people wonder why Porsche doesn't have enough faith in the DFI to go racing with it.

        I don't think the GT3 will make that jump just yet. Should be a GT1 block still.

        The 997 facelift taillights were kind of crappy IMO. These are much, much sleeker. It's the best change in the whole design of the car.
