      The 1M is a fairly light and well balanced BMW that makes for an excellent drivers car. The problem is that it does not have a real M motor under the hood so from an M purists perspective it is not a complete M car. So in comes TJ Fahrzeugen who for $26,000 will swap in the S85 V10 motor with an SMG transmission into an E82 1 Series. Add 1M body work and you have an M vehicle that BMW simply does not have the balls to build.

      There is a weight penalty with the SMG transmission and V10 motor of 130 kilograms or 286 pounds. Definitely a significant weight gain but it is worth it for the glorious V10 capable of over 8000 RPM and the 550 horses it packs mildly tuned in this application.

      This conversion can be applied to basically any E82 1 Series as the vehicle you see pictured below started out as a 123d. A V10 naturally aspirated high revving 1-Series? Perfect.

        Saw this last week. I wouldn't say BMW didn't have the balls to
        build this kind of car, with the relatively small budget allocated to the project
        and time constraints this type of car was impossible. And recertifying the S85 would only have added
        to the overall cost. And this car looks amazing. For a replica it is cool. If they get the fender flares wrong it screams fake. And this only says "I am a bad man"!

        Can't imagine it would be any good with an extra 286lb over the front axle. The understeer that already exists would be magnified a lot. Suspension mods to try and dial it out would be a must.

        IMO a built NA S65 would have been a better option.

        Oh the many things I'd do to have an S85B50 in one of my cars...They should have used a 6MT to help with weight.Does anyone know the weight of the N54?

        SMG is really not that much heavier.

        With the 1M not so much, though there's still a tiny bit. It mentioned that they started off with a 123d, the normal 1series suffers from a bit of understeer. I hope they swapped in all the M front suspension bits, along with the faster steering rack from the 1M.

        Considering how much work they put into the car, I'd expect the suspension to be up to par too. Problem is just the F to R weight distribution.
