Volkswagen has yet to reveal the new MKVII GTI but this design study shown ahead of the Paris Auto Show gives us a good idea of how the model will look. The bodywork is obviously more aggressive than the
standard MKVII Golf sporting an aggressive front fascia with integrated LED lights and a rear diffuser with twin exhaust pipes. Power will come from a 2.0 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder motor with 217 horses and 258 lb-ft of torque. An optional powerkit is said to up this to 230 horses.
It would be nice for a bit more power in the GTI up close to the 250 mark so the Golf R could make a big jump but Volkswagen is playing it safe. It is likely that the Golf R will match the
new Audi S3 or be tuned slightly weaker to maintain model hierarchy. Fans were hoping for the Golf to make the jump to the next performance level maybe even with the Audi turbocharged 5-cylinder from the TT-RS but that likely won't be the case.
Come on VW, give us a much hotter Golf! It's time.
