As reported in March of this year, the GLK would receive a facelift for the 2013 model year. This facelift included minor styling changes but most exciting was the updated 3.5 V6 motor under the hood. The GLK350 would go from the M272 3.5 liter V6 with 268 horsepower to the direct injected M276 3.5 liter V6 with 302 horsepower and start/stop technology. Car and Driver got their hands on the new GLK350 in rear wheel drive and 4Matic all wheel drive and here are their results.
The rear wheel drive version ran the 1/4 mile in 14.4@98 versus 14.5@97 for the 4Matic. 0-60 interestingly enough came a tenth quicker in the rear wheel drive GLK350 at 5.7 seconds. Curb weight between the two is similar with the all wheel drive model somehow only 10 pounds heavier at 4212 pounds.
Overall the new motor makes for a nice upgrade especially with the Q5 getting the supercharged 3.0 TFSI V6 and the BMW X3 having the N55 Twin Turbo Motor with 300 horses. Now if only someone at Mercedes would push for an AMG version...
